Best PC games ever.

I've never had a PC capable of playing anything more recent than Diablo. I'm planning to get a gaming PC real soon, though, so I need some help: I need recommendations, like the best 10 games of the last ~10 years. All genres are up for consideration (well, not sports or flight sims). If everyone here interested could just list their favorite 10 or so titles, I'd love to look into some good games.

So far, I'd imagine I need to play Oblivion, KOTOR 1 and 2, Half Life 1 and 2, and uh.. I dunno after that, hence the topic. Please no flaming of other people's choices, though. I'd like this to be a positive thread that even people who play PC games all the time might be able to find something in that they'd not played or known much about before.
