[So] I just watched 300. [possible spoilers within]

Fucking awesome. I haven't read the graphic novel, so this's just from my movie experience.

the first battle scene... it looked like the spartans were up against aegis plds. watch the movie and you'd understand why =p

then they threw nins against them. was chuckling away. drg > pld and nin.

movie was pretty linear...they developed King Leonidas pretty well, though the first scene with his son had me questioning how hardened he was. plotwise...it was pretty direct. the synopses were straight on what you can expect from the movie. i wasn't really expecting much anyways =p

battle scenes were what made the movie though... the movement of the spartans was fluid, and the fights were gorey. i take back all i've said about it having crappy cg...it actually blended in pretty well. certain parts were incredulous, but i guess it made it all the more fun to watch.

a lot of cheesy quotable stuff in the movie... the "THIS IS SPARTA" line came pretty early. oh...and the first part of the movie felt like something off some cheesy porno(yay boobies)

the trailer does this movie no justice. go watch. 8.5/10 from me.

This comes out the 9th right?

I do not want to rip this before it comes out, since it is going to be so epic, I just need to see it first in theaters.

The only historical accuracy issue up until this point I've heard is, there is no way the other Army could have had 250k soldiers at that point in time, or something like that.

Yeah.. I forgot it came out the 9th. Guess I'll be going then. >.> Packed theatres ftw. Return of the King was packed and "The Hulk" was packed. I am sure many where disgusted by "Hulk".

    Oh man, the Hulk was so bad I had to wash my brain out with soap when I got home from the theatre ; ;

But I was reading the New York Post's article about 300. And they talked about the book, saying that the book was pretty fucking accurate. And the biggest stray the movie took from the book was how the wife tried to rally the troops in the movie. This is all according to the article anyways.

At least from the previews it looked good enough to spend money on whether it was historically accurate or not lol. But how turned off would you guys really be if it wasn't totally historically accurate?

Sir Frederick Maurice a theologian / socialist from the mid 1800s was the first guy to say a land army could not surpass 250,000. So that school of thought is kinda out of date However most historians put the number around 800,000 with some saying it was closer to 2,500,000.

However the movie is really based the on story recorded by Herodotus and Diodorus and the movie 300 Spartans. So i'm sure the movie follows these closer than the rather fuzzy "history" of what really happened.

saying that the book was pretty fucking accurate.
Do you mean comic -> movie conversation? Because the comic was hardly historically accurate.

This is the paragraph I was quoting:
Mr. Snyder acknowledged that Mr. Miller — who declined to be interviewed for this article — had opened the door for contemporary comparisons with his passionate, if not entirely accurate, portrayal of the ancient Spartans as saviors of Western civilization. “He’d be on their side regardless of who they were fighting, because he just loves them,” Mr. Snyder said.
here is the link to the full article:
    http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/05/movie ... ref=slogin

In the quoted paragraph they were talking about the book that Frank Miller authored, that the movie was based on.

I hope people don't see Spartans as some type of freedom fighters. I mean they were the cruelest slave masters around. The reason they never traveled far from their main city was because most of their population were slaves and if the army was gone, they would revolt.

The 300 fought along side 700 slaves.

And they would fuck with their slaves, like kill a couple of them for no reason, to make them so afraid of the Spartans.

Don't get me wrong, the movie looks awesome, but I get the feeling people are going to start to think the Spartans were "good guys". They weren't really, and not a couple decades later, they side with Persians to cause the downfall of Athens, one of the greatest cities of Western history.

    Oh boy @ political symbolism.

i heard Dr. james sullivan from harvard, did an extensive study in an attempt to verify the historic account on which the movie is based, and the story was eventually proven to be accurate. not to metion, the back story of 300 is actually borrowed from the bible, book of john chapter 2:23, so it pretty much has to be true. to say otherwise, it's an act of terrorism and CIA surveillance agents will be dispatched to the closest building near yours.
