There's also custards which are probably the new flan.

    Ginger is yellow, so earth.
Anise is green, I think (it's used in absinthe, which is known for being green at least), wind.
    Mint is always cool, ice.
    Cinnamon is spicy, fire.
    Vanilla is white, light.
I'm not familiar with the properties of those other spices, but five of them at least support that theory. Someone mentioned one of the custards absorbing or resisting magic, if they're each tied to a specific element that would imply that they'll be weak to another one.

I don't think you can go by colors of the plant/seed for those because half of them are the same color. Most of those are a yellowish or reddish brown.

Okay those flan names are making me really hungry

Maybe Vile ____ is going to become the general schema for naming soulflayer NMs? Also, interestingly, a couple patches ago they added a "Samariri hat" to the item .dats, but without an icon and unobtainable. I wonder if they plan to make those drop from the Samariri Poroggos listed above, and if so what its function is.

Anise absorbed Ice. It freaked our RDM out a bit.

I would swap your guesses for Mint and Anise. Mint is green and refreshing, which I would associate with Wind.

Anise is a bluish color and tastes mint-ish - it's what they use in those little nasty blue after-dinner mints that you see in some older restaurants.

Well, it's a hunch based on someone else's hunch, so yeah. Salt is great. I think it would be worth trying at least, especially since a few of the names have fairly simple elemental correlations (cool mint, cinnamon being hot).
Or it could just be our brain's tendency to see patterns in everything. The difference between FFXI and the real world in this respect is that we know that FFXI was designed, whereas reality probably wasn't.

Hmm, going by the elemental-spice theory, I guess anise would be ice then. Or as Judai suggested it might all be bullshit.

I didn't say it was all bullshit.. You just used like 3 ways to compare names/colors. Mint is green but you said since it's cool so it's blue. Then you said Ginger is yellow so it's earth.

Anyways, I know the colors/names correlate just saying it's based on what color the rl stuff is. It will be based on what we associate that thing with. Such as Cinnamon/Red, Mint/Green and so on.

I fought Battledressed Chariot on the first floor last night in a "kill the enemy leader" objective. Was kinda hard and dropped nothing, only opened the rune.

I'm not sure how they compare to 4th floor chariot, but they were kinda similar in term of attack power, maybe less hp?

Yah, it was heavily biased on my spot-associations. Someone mentioned above that anise absorbed ice; I just fought a cinnamon that absorbed water. It took full damage from everything else though. Hopefully I'll hit another one on the next run.

Had to kill this guy on 5th Floor.... Used Brainjack around 20% HP

Then, on the next run we had to kill this guy on 6th Floor...

Used Inertia Stream and Discharge, never saw a Homing Missle but it can probably use it also...
