    Earthbound

There was also a game for PS2 called Tsugunai I loved, thought it was rather original as far as RPG's go.

If you're going the SRPG route, everything Juliano mentioned. But also add Shining Force 1/2 and the Fire Emblem series.

Atlus stuff. Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, Persona 3 (they will release it soon in NA), assorted Shin Megami Tensei...

But since OP has played Star Ocean and Tales of Phantasia, I'm sure he knows that website already

Sorry about my vague list before.

I didn't include everything I had, just every RPG I could view from this chair.

I have everything you guys mentioned

    Except a select few:

Star Wars games: thx but no thx
DDS 1 &2- Gamestop near me has them for 60 bucks, because they're fucking whores.
Shadow Hearts: From the New World.... I've played 1 & 2, just can't find this one.
Vandal Hearts 2- Always wanted to play due to mah <3 for 1, but can't find it.
La Pucelle (And Makai Kingdom while Im at it)- haven't been found either.
Persona series: I actually own these, but can't bring myself to stay with them for some reason.

Also, by the way, I don't get the whole "JRPG" thing.

That style of RPG is the most comfortable kind to me....

And when 95% of the playable RPGs on the market are that kind, I think they should just call the others "LAG" (LolAmericanGames).

I really don't like Anime, or any of that Wapanese bullshit (I only play the Tales of Games for the gameplay.)

But when it comes to RPGs, Japan Delivers, and America doesn't.

America needs to stick with its' "BLOW SHIT UP NUKKA" style, they're good at it.

I STRONGLY insist you avoid Vandal Hearts 2. Also, try Vagrant Story and Jade Empire, now on the PC.

Lufia II > Lufia I, but both are really fun.

Heh, if you don't mind extreme xp grinding, try out 7th Saga for the SNES. Overworld graphics are kinda shoddy and it has that annoying "open a menu and press talk" (i.e. Dragon Quest 1-4 iirc) to talk to npcs, but the combat graphics are neat. You have to xp grind..... a lot, and it is pretty difficult. You can pick from multiple characters to play as and can pick many different partners to level with. There is also a sequal, but it was only released in Japan so I never really played it.

Soulblazer- very zelda-esque adventure-rpg. The game has 2 sequals: Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma, both very similar in gameplay.

Also, try out Robotrek for the SNES. You build robots to do your fighting. Graphics similar to Soulblazer and Terranigma. Story is kinda kiddy though.

Brandish- a SNES dungeon crawler adventure-rpg. Operating the camera takes a little bit to getting used to, but I ended up getting really hooked on this game. Also a japanese sequal released.

Dual Orb II- SNES jrpg. I never did beat it, but it was pretty difficult from what I remember.

Live a Live- A chapter driven somewhat srpg. Basically you play different character from different periods and areas in human history. Battles (both random and story driven) are set up on a grid system.

As others have mentioned Earthbound (Mother 2) and Super Mario RPG are good, also Mother 1 for the NES is fun.

I used to be big into the whole console ROM thing and have played many obscure rpgs.

Ah! Just remembered a game last night that hasn't been mentioned in this topic!

    Skies of Arcadia!

Really fun game :D (1st dungeon is a bitch in annoyance, but, what games don't have an annoying 1st dungeon/beginning? -.-)

My dreamcast exploded after leaving Skies of Arcadia on for about 4 days straight. Seriously. -.-

Btw, to all the people who keep mentioning SNES games....

I said I have every Rom RPG, and I wasn't kidding.
    Thanks for the contributions though...

    Pretty much love roms/bios.

Beating games in 4 hours with lolFastforward is kind of lazy, but rewarding nonetheless.

Dual Orb II was enjoyable, and it wasn't really hard due to the MP system being so improportional.... (Cure 1 Equiv: 40% HP Restore: 90 MP.... LV5 Char MP: 3000)

Terranigma is probably my favorite Action RPG of all time, and Live a Live was hard like hell.

I'd say the real challenge is listing any good RPGs you haven't played yet...

I guess Threads of Fate is the only one I can think off that I have played.

    OK I lied.

    .Hack//GU
Breath of Fire series (3 is my favourite)
    Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana
More SMT games (Digital Devil Saga etc)
    Radiata Stories
    Summoner and Summoner 2

I guess Zone of the Enders kinda fits the bill, fun games in anycase.

Uhh, Jade Cacoon was decent, last resort list time I guess.

Ok I lied again, I got nothing else...

The relatively rare sequel to Legend of Legia, which was called Dual Saga was pretty okay.

Jesus.. you've played as many games as me.. I'm humbled.

If you are going to go the jade cacoon route.. get the sequel.. which is also pretty damn rare now.

Shining Force 3 is good.. wish they would finally get around to translating and emulating that in a way that didn't require the ritual sacrifice of kittens to play.
