The synopsis was pretty helpful on keeping you updated on where to go and the current situation at hand. All games should have that IMO.

I'd say it was the best Tales game in years.

I'd like to have seen the elemental summons in it (its the first tales game in forever that didn't have them)

    Otherwise pretty brilliant.

Minus the Heinous loading times on the overworld.

    Incorrect.

Tales of Rebirth did not have summons. It came out shortly before Tales of the Abyss. Not sure where Tales of Legendia fit in (I often forget it exists), but it didn't have summons either!... these are all games released within a short timespan! ~2 years!

You could say it's been a while since a Tales game was released which had summons! I believe the last one for a non-hand held (I don't follow the hand held Tales games) was Symphonia which was over three year ago!

In fact the only Tales games with summons are

    Tales of Phantasia
    Tales of Symphonia
    Tales of Eternia
Tales of Destiny 2 (They are Ougi's which extend off Level 3 Magic. they carry no significance to the story at all.)

    While the ones without!

    Tales of Destiny
    Tales of Rebirth
    Tales of Legendia
    Tales of Abyss

If you don't count Tales of Destiny 2! you could say that the amount of Tales games without summons outnumber those with summons!

I don't know about Tales of the Tempest, I've only heard negative things about the game so I never followed nor purchased it. It's a hand held (The only non-spinoff, non-re release hand held Tales game!) so I don't even care about it.

    /really bored at work
//used to be obsessed with Tales games a few years back.

I always enjoyed the Sekundas? (sp?) fight in Tales of Eternia. It's pretty much a clone of the Dhaos fight down to how Keele has a special indignation animation which kills him instantly once he is sub 50% HP.

Actually, the summons were in ToL (and are mentioned in ToA as Lorelai-like manifestations of their respective fonons) but they only showed up in Grune's storyline. Too bad I disliked that game with a passion >.>

I actually played ToL to the end.. hoping Grune would end up becomming a Summoner and getting ability to summon something or something... and of course her story was the last of the character chapter things...... bleh

    I got so excited everytime she started going on about the summons;;

Yeah.. I also played Legendia to the end.. and yes... that makes me a total tales whore.

Game wasn't terrible.. it just wasn't particularly noteworthy.

Ninja Edit: When did tales of rebirth come out.. cause I certianly dont remember it coming out stateside.. so I'm assuming its an import?

    JP onry, december 2004

And yeah, I kinda enjoyed Legendia, although I don't really remember why now <.< Going through those lame dungeons over and over was probably the most annoying thing of the game, and the only-1-town thing did piss me off a lot at the start. Also the fact that you're in a stupid ship thing and can't explore the world -_-

Heh.. indeed.. repeating the same dungeons was epic fail ^^

The magic system was at least intriguing... and the characters were not bad.. it just wasn't up to the normal Tales Snuff.

The style and art of the game was epic fail. I just couldn't get into it... everything felt clunky.

    Re: Tales of the Abyss

Hrm.. it was a bit washed out I'll grant you.. but some of the dungeons.. such as the one where the walls came alive after you found grune weren't that bad.
