A 75-year-old woman from Karlstad in central Sweden has been given a scorching 40 Gbps internet connection — the fastest residential connection anywhere in the world. Sigbritt Löthberg is the mother of Swedish internet guru Peter Löthberg, who is using his mother to prove that fiber networks can deliver a cost-effective, ultra-fast connection. Sigbritt, who has never owned a computer before, can now watch 1,500 HDTV channels simultaneously or download a whole high definition DVD in two seconds. Apparently 'the hardest part of the whole project was installing Windows on Sigbritt's PC.

An article in Press Esc notes an analyst study of the increasing demand for fiber-to-the-home in Europe.

I think I would cream my pants if I even got to touch the cord to this beast. (the intarwebs, not the old lady lol)

40Gbps = 40 giga bits per seconds = 5 giga BYTES per second download rate. So she can download a 5gig file in a second. It seems kind of like "who cares if its 40gbps or 10gbps or even 1gbps at that point?". I mean, if you're that impatient...

Windows media doesn't seek for me in IE or Firefox, so I have to use Real Media for streams .

If most americans could get true fiber speeds, most all of the computers wouldnt be able to handle it. Getting from NIC > Fiber > NIC is no problem, but the connection from NIC to HD is the bottleneck.

Generally it's not the HD's RPM that's the bottleneck. There's other things.

With that connection, streaming would be a thing of the past. Just DL anything that you want to seek on.
