I started playing today, game is overall interesting... But feels alot like WoW in the aspect of playing alone at your own pace.

Playing alone is a choice you can make. Most people join a Corporation though. Beginner pirates and smugglers tend to play alone for a while.

I played for a while (as Kiro knows ) but after a bit I got bored and couldn't find anything to do except more missions..am I missing something? It's a great game and I love the visuals and whatnot, but it can get repetetive. Give me a reason to subscribe!

    Re: EVE Online

Ok so I just got back from this study session and found out 2 guys play EVE. We talked about it for a good hour and they really sold the game to me. For one it's actually so deep you can't learn everything, it'd simply take too long and two, you can't just jump into the game and know everything about it, it takes extreme amounts of time to learn all the depth there is to this game it seems(like the 200+ ships?).

Anyway... downloading the client now and I'm definitely going to be an Assassin/Master-Pilot/Conman. My friend's name is Vot and he's in the 5th largest corporation or something in the south part of the galaxy. It was red iirc but I forgot the name.

Edit: Can't for the life of me find where to just make a free account for the trial on their website so I'm downloading the client suspecting it's in it itself. WIll update tomorrow with progress I guess, if you can help me out at all with Isk or anything like that, or advice, I'd appreciate it :D

    Re: EVE Online

ARGH GIMME MY 5M BACK FALLSO! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

But, yeah, you can mission run to your hearts' content but that's only 1% of the game. The EVE universe is so big it'd take you years to explore all of it. I've only been playing for 6 months on one account, and I just made another one (Gallente Drone Specialist ftw) and I'm having a blast with two characters.

My main account is Caldari, so it'll never experience solo PvP. Just fleet battles and carebearing (mission running). My Gallente character, on the other hand, is gonna be an epic pirate once I get all my core skills to a decent amount.

There's high-sec space, low-sec space, and null-sec space. By sec I mean security. In null-sec space there is no CONCORD to keep you in one piece. In low-sec there are some, but not enough to keep you alive if you get gangraped. Pirates are the law out there, so if you have big balls you can go explore low/null-sec space if you want. I spend more time out there ratting than I do in high-sec on my Caldari.

Ratting, basically, is killing NPC pirates for bounties, which can be up to 6.5M a ship. Most I've made in an hour in a Caracal was 24M or something. You can also salvage their wrecks and hope you get some epic 150M+ module.

My "goal" for this game is to get into a huge pirating corp on my Gallente and just wreak havoc everywhere, while my Caldari sits comfortably in high-sec and makes me money until I decide I've had enough and suck him up into the wide world of blissful pirating.

PIRATING > CARE BEAR MISSION RUNNING FOOFOO. At least later on. It's not a smart idea to start the game and hop right into low/null-sec unless you know someone out there already (HAY THATS ME LOLZ).

    Uh.. yeah.

Caldari : Missile / Long-range. Best at Electronic Warfare and fleet battles (arguable).
Gallente : Gun / Drone Specialists. Best at Drones and PvP (arguable).
Amarr : LAZORZ!. Best at.. lasers and armor tanking. Not too sure about the armor tanking part.
Minmatar : No clue about this race honestly. All I know is that they're really really fast. They have one of the best sniper ships in the game I believe.

    Re: EVE Online

Cool, my name will probably be Maguspk or iQuench what is yours? I'll add Zhais too.

I really want to be a pirate, I remember my friends mentioned the size of ships too. One guy runs a drake at the moment and just does missions. The other is in the 5th largest corp in the game as I mentioned, over 2000 members and they own a pretty large section of the space (territory?) which seemed cool. He warped around a bit and it looked really nice (he said he was using Titan, apparently a souped up graphics engine of the game) and then he showed me this thing and mentioned the bubbles you can make and trap people in. I'd totally plant a bunch of those bubbles to trap noobs in and make them give me their money, then kill them. haha.

Another cool story that intrigued me was how a really small ship can like just "web" a larger ship and prevent them from warping, or even circle around them and annoy/outrun their offense. That's really cool to me. Also, the scale of large ships versus small ships seemed great too. How the smallest ship is like a dot compared to the larger ships in the picture he showed me.

Probably going to make an account when I get home today, so I'll try and add people that post with their names from now on or whatever and maybe you all can like make sure I don't do stupid noobish shit. Like upgrading Charisma too much or distributing points wrong, etc. I want to be a suave pirate/conman/master-pilot of EVERYTHING. They mentioned that sounded extremely hard and it'd take forever, but I'm in for it because it sounds crazy.

Oh ya! The idea that battleships and such cost like 20,000 dollars in real life worth of in game currency. That's nuts! I'd be so tempted to get high up in a corps and then cash out and make an easy 1/4 mil or something. They mentioned a war going on at the moment involving 8 battleships or titans or motherships, one of those, that's easily close to 200,000 US dollars. Crazy. I just love how immense, imersive and player controlled this game sounds. I really underestimated it everytime it came up before I got to see it, "Oh it's just you flying a ship around lol, how dumb." But the moment they showed me the picture of the galaxy and I said "oh are those all planets? That's fucking huge" and they replied, "No, those are systems." I shit myself.

    Yeah, probably.

I'm Maguspk, go ahead and add me if I don't end up adding you, I just finished the tutorial and my first warp ensured I'd probably at least be playing until the end of my 30 days lmao. So sick.

I did a few missions and I love the way everything is set up, the only thing I really dislike is how sometimes I'll end up somewhere and be really far from the place I need to go, and I'll have to like fly really slowly towards it. Like between stargate jumps or approaching a place I get a mission from. Is there any way to just warp everywhere? I also hate having to wait as I approach ships from far away before I can lock on and start shooting them. Usually I warp in about 30 Km away.

When warping to a Stargate, do it manually at 0M. SO much faster. For missions, if you want to move faster, train / equip an afterburner. Microwarpdrives work like that as well, but they only work in open space (missions are usually in deadspace pockets). MWDs are usually for PvP usage. To be able to lock ships from a farther distance, you have to train long distance targeting and equip Sensor Booster modules to your ship. Some ships also have a natural trait that lets them target from farther distances. Beginner ships don't have that and require modules to help. Depending on what race you chose, you can work your way up like...

    Rookie Ship> Frigate> Destroyer> Cruiser> Battlecruiser> Battleship.

Those are the "main" categories for ships. There are tons of different tiers for each one. T2, as its commonly called in EVE. Like, if you check the item description on some ships you'll see they require a higher level of skill to pilot than the other ships in its class.

Each category for a certain type of ship is pretty large. They all just use the same hull style. Hence why Assault Ships are Frigate-sized, and Heavy Assault ships are Cruiser-sized. They're just the "next level" in that certain category.

Edit: Training up is entirely up to you, you don't need to go the way I showed to succeed. I know people that have been playing for 3 years and don't have Battleship trained up, because they weren't interested in them. They're bulky and very slow, but very powerful. There are smaller ships that are just as lethal, but take longer to train to pilot. But just because you can pilot a certain type of ship doesn't mean you can do it well. Skills are everything in this game. You could be flying around in a 150M Battleship with 900M in modules and have 20M Skillpoints and get completely destroyed by someone in an electronic warfare battlecruiser with only 10M Skillpoints. There are no "insta-win" ships in this game. It's all about player skill, skillpoints, and your knowledge of how the game works.

Add me whenever you want and I'll help you out with money, as long as you don't quit with it like FALLSO did. :< I gave him 5M and he quit. QUITTER.

    Re: EVE Online

Ok, Recon Three and Zhais. Got it will add later.

In class today on his laptop one friend showed me how he had rank 5 in all these learning skills. I think I'm learning rank 1 though. Can I bypass rank 1 and just buy rank 5 and start training that to level 5 instead of wasting my time with the one I started with? Or am I misunderstanding the system? I didn't quite understand the answer he gave me and it just confused me more about skills.

Also, I was literally begging for any corp to inv me in the recruitment channel periodically between missions and nobody ever did. I then got into a private chat with one guy:

Guy: So you need help learning the game?
Me: Not really, I'm doing fine but I'd like to join a corp and learn the main aspects of the game more quickly and from experienced players.
Guy: Oh ok, "are you riding Caldari"? (Wtf does this mean anyway, "riding caldari" isn't that a fucking race. I ride my spinners not my race, lolz.)
    Me: Uh, I'm Gallente.
Guy: Oh, that's too bad. [leaves private chat]

lol, I don't get it. Race didn't seem like that big a deal to me, just your starting skills, not like you can't learn all that shit later right? I also chose good starting stuff, like the +4 perception and my 5 intial points went into (2 memory, 1 perception and 2 willpower), the other stuff, I chose Special Forces, not Soldier because I want to be a suave pirate. I also chose the bloodline that gave me the increased drone usage and stuff because Drones just sounded badass (little ships that do my dirty work? Ok.).

by rank 5 he means he trained his learning skill from 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 ->5, there is no other way to do it. And honestly, forget about getting learning skills fully up to level 5. For the amount of time it takes to train from 4 to 5, you would have to be constantly training for I think 2 years to actually get a benefit from it. I have all my basic learning skills to 4, and advanced to 3 at this point (besided lolchr).

    And drones are awesome I have 1.6ish mil of SP in drones right now, about 5.5mil SP total. To kill things, I fly around in a dominix with only one gun, salvagers and tractor beams. I let the drones do ALL of the work, with a gun just to aggro things. I want to train heavy drones from 4 to 5 for Ogre IIs (best damage drones in the game), but 25ish day training time ;;

Guy in private chat was a dipshit. No race is inherently better than the other for the most part.

Oh, and lookup a program called 'EveMon'. It is a skill training manager that helps out a bunch, and alerts you when your skills are finished

    Re: EVE Online

My friend used EveMon and EveFit or something to show me the ship fitting and skill selection.

I think I'll get those soon since I've started equipping things on my ship and such. I am going to have to buy alot of the learning skills right? My friend had a bunch of skills leveled up in his learning category. Should I buy all of them first and get them to about 3 or 4 before trying to focus on other skills? I assume I can just search Market and find most of them and then the rest I can put out a contract for or something?

Look up EVE University. If they're still around, they're a great corp that helps out newer players to learn the game. People were friendly, advice was great, and they won't discriminate based on race.

Train learning skills up to 2 atleast, finish them to 3~4 after you have your other skills up to the point you can do other missions. Game could potentially get boring while you wait a couple weeks to train all the learning skills while you are still doing level I missions You can find all the skill books with ease, no need to worry about contracts at all. I have yet to mess with those things.

I believe if you get into a destroyer you can clear level II missions fairly easy, definitely can with a cruiser. I ended up skipping destroyers (and battlecruisers coincidentally) and went from frigate -> cruiser -> battleship.

Don't bother training learning skills on a trial account unless you're sure you want to play for a long time. Only then are they worth training up. Basics to 4, advanced to 3. My Gallente character is only on Lv2 missions right now, and I'm in a Cruiser. Drones do pretty much everything. All I've got are Tractor/Salvage and Drone Link Augmentors for longer Drone range.

Nigga, I'm gonna be a suave pirate conman, course I'm going to be playing longer than the trial account! But yeah I keep seeing 4 and 3 for skills and people getting yelled at on forums for going to 5 (lol waste of months). So I'm going to go ahead and do that as I do missions occasionally and try to expand my knowledge of the game and how I want to progress. Given I'm gallente I think it's fairly obvious based on what I've read that drones are one of my best specialities so I'll look into those soon. At the moment I'm just running 2 light cluster blasters (that's the name iirc) and putting them both on during fights to speed up my kills.

How do I know whether I'm on level one or level two missions? I'm sure I'm on level one but I'd just like to know so I can be more aware of what I'm doing and how to categorize it.

I got the 45k isk learning skills but I can't afford the 4.5mil ones, they aren't really needed at this point right? I'll buy them later I assume and it won't be bad for my learning progress?
