    Job Profiles - Dragoon

    http://www.cactusleaftl.com/ffxipics...bs/DRG/DRG.jpg

Using a long spear called a Lance, Dragoons are from an ancient order of knights that fight alongside their wyvern with fearsome power.

    http://www.cactusleaftl.com/ffxipics...DRGprofile.jpg

    ??????? – Drachen Brais
These protective brais cover the thigh and are made of cloth reinforced with leather guards on the sides.

    ???????? – Drachen Greaves
Made from a light-weight alloy, these long, wide boots are perfect for jumping. They even contain a cushion of air in the heels and toes to soften the impact upon landing.

    ????????? – Drachen Finger Gauntlets
These gloves protect the hands and forearms. TaruTaru and Galka wear mitten-type gloves where only the thumb is separated, while the three other races have individual fingers.
    http://www.cactusleaftl.com/ffxipics.../DRGfinger.jpg

    ??????? – Drachen Mail
Vital areas of this armor are protected by metal plates, but the bulk of it is made of leather to keep it light. Therefore, it does not offer much protection outside of blocking fatal strikes.

    ????????? – Drachen Armet
Both sides of this helmet are decorated with wyvern wings. A chin protector help guard the wearer from the impact of landing when Jumping.

    ---

    ????????? – The Last Dragoon

    http://www.cactusleaftl.com/ffxipics...astdragoon.jpg
The leader of the Brugaire Consortium tells of his father’s passing, and how one of his treasured mementos has been stolen. However, it is no ordinary item, but a piece of armor worn by the Last Dragoon.

The Last Dragoon was named Erpalacion, and served as commander of the Royal Knights, during King Ranperre’s reign. Now rumors are flying about that Erpalacion has returned and is taking vengeance upon the Royal Knights… …

It is said King Ranperre once banished Erpalacion in fear of his immense power. However, that was decades past, and surely he died long ago. So, who is the true perpetrator… …?

    ---

    ???? – Rahal

    http://www.cactusleaftl.com/ffxipics...G/DRGrahal.jpg
Rahal serves as the current commander of the Royal Knights of Sand’Oria. He is known as the “Dragon Slayer,” and is the antithesis of the Dragoon. Wyverns can carry a Holy Seal or an Unholy Seal , and it is the job of a Dragon Slayer to eliminate those wyverns that are bound to evil.

Recently, Dragon Slayers have grown overzealous, and are slaughtering dragons without knowledge of or concern for which seal they bear. Fate cries out for a new order of Dragoon to protect the unborn, for brave knights to bind themselves to wyvern. To save those bearing the holy seal, the Dragoon shall be reborn… …

    ---

    ?? – Abilities

    ???????? – Call Wyvern
This is a Dragoon’s primary ability, which allows them to call forth the wyvern to which they are bound by a pact. A wyvern understands its master’s intent and acts accordingly, so direct orders are unnecessary.

    http://www.cactusleaftl.com/ffxipics...RG/DRGjump.jpg
    ???? – Jump
Using their superior jumping ability, a Dragoon is able to attack from the sky above. An especially skilled Dragoon can jump to incredible heights, and out of their enemy’s sight.

    ?????????? – Ancient Circle
By putting up this magical barrier, a Dragoon can share their exceptional skill at fighting dragons (Dragon Killer) with their comrades.

    ???????? – Spirit Link
Through the special bond a Dragoon has with their wyvern, this ability allows one to split their life force with their wyvern.

    ---

    ?? – Weapons and Armor

    http://www.cactusleaftl.com/ffxipics...yvernperch.jpg
    ???????? – Wyvern Perch
The lumber used for this is cut from a tree once used as an aery for wyverns in the wild. Therefore, a wyvern can rest easy when perched upon this long staff.

    ***

    http://www.cactusleaftl.com/ffxipics...RGdreizack.jpg
    ??????? – Dreizack
Long ago, there was a duel between a female swordsman and a giant beast. The woman was no match for the beast’s strength, but at the last moment, she hurled her trident and it cut deep into the flesh of the monster. Even now, hundreds of years later, the trident continues to absorb its blood.

    ***

    http://www.cactusleaftl.com/ffxipics...ezucchetto.jpg
    ????????? – Barone Zucchetto
The Zucchetto is a helmet once worn by the knights of Tavnazia. It imitates an Eastern style, with its extravagant design and gemstone inlays. It’s also designed to give the wearer a wide range of vision, which was meant to benefit Dragoons back when they existed.

    ***

    http://www.cactusleaftl.com/ffxipics...dragonmail.jpg
    ??????? – Dragon Mail
This scale mail is crafted by processing and binding dragon scales onto leather armor. Dragon scales are especially tough, so it takes a superior bone crafter to prepare them. With the finished product, the wearer will gain a surprising amount of resistance to the elements.

Released Jan 2005 IIRC, DRG update was Dec 2005.

Also, what's the relationship, if any, between DRG wyverns, "vouivre" wyverns, and wyrms? Shadow dragons and dahak seem to be hellspawn and puks and hydras are chimeras, so we'll leave them out of this. Are black wyverns (AA, Dynamis, draugar wyverns; the wyvern in the Lufaise lake seems to be a "mature" version) "Unholy Seal" wyverns?

This explains why the armor is so pathetic and weak. A front-line knight class that fights in light plate, leather, and cloth armor. How the mighty have fallen.

    Re: Job Profiles - Dragoon

    I see inconsistancies here!

1)From the DRG article, I can infer DRGs wear light armor to jump higher but any physics student knows the laws of conservation of momentum. Although a DRG wearing heavier armor couldn't jump as high, the impact would be just as great due to the added inertia. So although he wouldn't jump as high, the kinetic energy relased on impact would be just as great as a lighter, higher jump.

    2) If Dragoons can jump so high and wear such light armor, why do we have LESS evasion and Agility as a Ninja who's also allegedly agile and light on their feet.

    3) How come Ninjas are so agile and speedy but can wear heavier armor than Dragoons and maintain their A- Evasion and high base AGI but Dragoons can't?

    4) How are Ninjas more qualified to wear things like Royal Knight Chainmail and Royal Squire Breeches while Dragoons, the highest order of San'Dorian knight wear waffer thin leather and doublets.I'll remind you, the premise of Dragoons in the story is to do battle with fire/poison/ice/ breathing doomy beasts of dread and last I checked, leather and cloth are highly inflammable. (inflammable mean flammable? What kind of country is this?)

    PS2 Limitations?

I love these job profiles. It's interesting to see Square's take on the jobs. I'd never even noticed that the Taru and Galka armor is different from the others.

    1) But all of that momentum only matters if you can jump on top of the enemy

    2) Because that's leg strength and skill, not evasion or agility.

    3) Because they're fucking ninjas.

    4) BECAUSE THEY'RE FUCKING NINJAS

    Re: Job Profiles - Dragoon

Drgs were designed to make sense in every incarnation save for this one. They've always worn the heaviest of armor (until the very end, which has armor that separates the pld-war from the rest), used high-damage lances WITH shields, and have always jumped for more damage than a normal hit (with the use of a spear/lance). It was a fine time to screw up the job, in a game that is community-based, wherein only the strongest of jobs are the socially accepted jobs. Take Kain, Cid, Drgs from FFT, Freya, or hell, even Ricard and place those drg builds into this game, and things would be much different.

But yes, Seraphus, Ninja can do anything. Remember the broken ninja from FF and FFIII -- Edge and Yuffie were probably the only two ninja in FF games that weren't completely broken. Its only natural that stealthy jobs such as ninja should stalk around in loud, heavy, and movement-restrictive chainmail. Mesh is one thing, as it can interlock so as to reduce sound while increasing mobility, but not fucking heavy iron chains, lol.

    Re: Job Profiles - Dragoon

Yeah Ninjas are sneaky, stealthy and agile and prefer to attack from the dark shadows.... PROVOKE! WARCRY! BERSERK!

If SE didn't intend for NINs to tank, they should have made Utsu have a longer recast or something, so they'd play more DD/Enfeebler roles >.>

Because SE had to make DRG weak since Kain was the most popular SNES FF Character?
