Anyone know if the Apron prevents items from catching line? I've heard that it dramatically reduces item bite rate, but not sure if it eliminates it. Even if it just reduces item bite by half, it could save me an hour getting to 200.
In my experience it reduces item bite rates significantly. I seem to get about 1/4 as many item bites as I did before
i'll probably never get that apron. i'm going for sea serpant rumors ONRY GDI lolz, and waders. the stuff i fish i'd rather have +1 skill, since there is hardly any rusty item catches. gogo fishing skill +, 60k/95k ALMOST DER :O
Is it really worth it to get the GP items (apron + waders) instead of the standard fishing gear ? Does it enhance bite-rate ? Significantly ?
well the waiders is +2 skill on the feet, its the only reason i'm getting it lawls
Yep, I've been thinking about that as well...but then I started wondering : What's the exact effect of having a higher skill ?
- Better bite-rate ? It seems true...It's kinda obvious when levelling that for a specific fish, you get more bites at higher level.
- Easier catches ? It seems true...Ryugu titans are way easier at 100 skill than they were to me at 80ish.
- Less breaks ? Can't say...I rarely break my Lu Shang's...Cherax broke it about 50% of the catches at 90 just like at 100 though. The figure comes from noticeing I usually bought 4 stacks of Light xtals and usually came back with ~50 Cherax and not a single xtal.
- Anything else ?
ima go with easier catches, like you said with cave cherax and the other high ll fish, i noticed the stamina go down way faster and easier. thats all i saw, which is why i want to get waders, to make it easier fishing lik

I started on October 1st 2008 and got it today. Fished up around 8500 and bought the rest.
From level 1 to level 56 fishing I have tracked all my expenses and profit. So far I've lost 78000 gil mostly due to buying moat carp. But I also have two Pelican Rings and a "The Big One".
Now it's time to start fishing for skillup and profit again.
P.S. If I ever see another Moat Carp of Insect Ball I think I might kill someone.

I'm noticing right off the bat that this thing doesn't keep fish on as long as Lu Shang's, but the stamina depletion is far greater. Is this the right assumption?
can you trade gold carps or tricolor carps for lu shang?
Ding 100, and hurray for Armored Pisces. After I hit 96 I had a loooong dry spell with no skillups on Pisces or Pterygotus, but in the final stretch from 99 to 100 I got three 0.2s on Pisces, two of them in the same hour. With Pelican Ring, of course.
I also tried Cave Cherax a bit, but they only bite about half as often as Pisces, and break the line on my Lu pretty often. Although being able to pull up Devil Mantas at the same time is a nice perk (0/3 :/).
I never tried Ryugu Titans because I didn't want to break my rod and hated ferry fishing when I tried skilling up on Marlins; I like to be able to fish for a while, then AFK for a while, come back and fish more, but on the ferry that gets you stuck in Mhaura for 15 minutes.
And no, only moat/forest carp for Lu quest.
