They will enhance, greatly, the ebisu rod's stats.
They will add new legendary fishes - biggest ones yet. But do not take them to Selbina yet.

No more info on exactly what, or exactly how "great" the enhancement will be. Knowing SE it will be something pathetic, cause they hate fishermen.

If I store my pessimism for a bit, things I could see happening:
- No fatigue cap with Ebisu
- Better at reducing stamina
- Keeps fish on line longer
- No line snaps
- Enhances fishing instinct
- Narrower targeting (i.e. don't give me lvl 20 fish if I'm targeting lvl 100 fish)

At the moment, the only thing Ebisu has over Lu's is no rod breaks. Everything else is identical, which is BS.

If moon phase does indeed affect all fish, then not it won't affect them all the same way. The clearest example of this is Crescent Fish which are extremely scarce unless you fish during a crescent moon phase. Other fish, for example Lik are more active during the night. Most of the time when people talk about Full/New Moon as being "good" they're talking about skillups.

The connection between moon phase and skillups is (imo) kinda suspect, haven't seen any real data there. But the connection between certain fish and time of day / moon phase is very clear. It's just that most fish haven't been researched in any way. It's a gargantuan task for miniscule return.

Then again, maybe you just got really unlucky. FFXI = random.

Hmm, maybe that's been changed, or it's different in DA. Back in 2004 it was the general consesus that Crescent fish was much more active during crescent moon phase in East Saru. Oh well /shrug.

bites are usually much better during full/new phases in my opinion

been after sole's since 65>95 and ive definetly noticed that the phases in question do affect the amount of bites i see

however who knows really i try not to fish on weird moons/weather but sometimes i just ignore my instincts and fish anyway and its so mind numbing that half the time i don't even remember what moon phase it is or even pay attn to the weather

Full-moon seems to be slightly better to me, for the bite-rate, while New Moon is a bit better for skillups.

Bite rate is said to vary depending on the fish and the time of the day, and I have been under the impression that Shall Shells are better from 6 to 12AM (vanadiel time) while Silver Sharks and Bhelfel Marlins look better from 12 to 18, and Bluetail from 18 to 0. Thing is, FFXI often does a good job proving me I'm completely wrong by giving me awesome bite rates at opposite times of the day...so all this is probably pretty far from being anything more than a gut feeling.

So I’ll be fishing in T.cove ‘till probably 96. What’s the easiest way to skill up to 100 once I get there? How much of a chore is it to go from 96 to 100, and how long does it typically take?

Although I'm not there myself, I can relate what I've heard from others:

Easiest is probably doing Lik while working on Ebisu, not exactly sure how fast that is (especially since you can only use 2 rings at a time, so no pelican ring if you use albatross+penguin). I have heard good things about Cave Cherax in Kuftal and QS, but it's annoying to get to and affected heavily by weather. Personally, I'm staying in Nashmau until 99, Pterygotus ftw.
As for time, it's always a shot in the dark, but my overall skillup rate since lvl 50 has been like .1-.2 per hour. It started higher and has been steadily decreasing. If you assume .1 per hour then 70-100 will take you 300 more hours. If you have a skillup ring for that whole time (1 ring lasts 60 hours) then you could probably do it twice as fast.

40 days til NYE, 300 hours, only 7.5 hours a day, gogo! Good luck.

p.s. Like I say, it's a shot in the dark, but I'd wager it would take at the very very least 100 hours.

Even after all this time, I'd say the best way to go 96-100 is on the ferry. The reason is bite rate. Put a meatball on your hook and you will be getting about 6-10 possible skill up bites per ride. That's up to 30 per hour. No way will you get 30 lik to bite an hour. Cherax, same story from my experiance (although I hit 100 several fishing updates ago, that could have changed). Plus you can synth the titanictus into shells and turn in titans for a chance at a few more gil so its not a total waste of time as far as gil is concerned. If you are from windy you get the additional bonus of having the OP warp taru right by the fishing guild so you can buy bait and warp to dunes.


I would also like to hear about ebisu changes. The titanictus boards have been very silent on the matter.
