What the fuck did he do? Why is he being honored this way? HE MADE A FUCKING MOVIE. He didn't solve global warming, he just told people about it. There is no words to express the large amounts of WHAT THE FUCK in this.

The award had nothing to do with his movie; Al Gore has dedicated a large amount of the last 10?+ years of his life to Global Warming awareness. I don't like Al Gore, nor do I fully agree with the current conceptions on Global Warming, but it really didn't surprise me to see such a now meaningless award being given to him.

NPR ran a story about how little the Peace Prize seems to count for in this day and age. First time I said WTF was when they gave one to Arafat.

At least Gore's donating the money he got...science wins in a way I suppose.

Well, according to wikipedia, the first Peace Prize winner in 1901 got it for founding the Red Cross and Geneva Convention, and the 1948 prize would have gone to Mahatma Gandhi if he hadn't been assassinated.

He has been one of my favorite people since the 1996 Democratic Convention before the election. He rocks.

According to Nobel's will, the Peace Prize should be awarded "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses".

I see no mention of the word invent. Getting people to actually care about global warming is the current necessary step in the process, and the panel is simply what did the job. Al Gore is a convenient individual figurehead for the panel.
