    Bye bye, Oink. :(

    http://www.thisisthenortheast.co.uk/dis ... ebsite.php

    Oink.cd killed.

I just got an invite like a month ago and was thrilled how much of my CD collection (currently all in boxes in my mother's garage in Michigan...) I was able to hear again. And now it's gone.

Funnily enough, the prereleases and such that they say was the major offense often got deleted because they were not up to Oink's quality standards, but I'm sure people would grab them before they were caught and spread them to more widespread torrents.

/sigh... and I had *just* found someone to get me some of the European cast recordings I've currently got stowed away in those aforementioned boxes. And it was an absolutely amazing treasure of classical music...

(Yes, I'm a musical theatre and opera freak, so shoot me.)

    O

It was lovely for searching and such. All album info was listed, you knew exactly what you were getting before even downloading; most people included .logs of their rips and such to verify that they ripped it and it was not a transcode to meet the higher quality requirements, etc. Rips had to be at least 192 kbps and if you were found to be uploading torrents of CDs that were either lossy rips of lossy sources or transcodes of lossy, like, making 128s 192s or something, your account was suspended/warned/deleted, etc. They also required that all uploads be actual CDs, not 'collections' of something people put together or single tracks. And there was a high demand for FLAC rips in general.

Forums, request indexes, people could list collections they had available for ripping (so they didn't have to rip and host the torrent full time and never get a download), etc.

I was just so happy to be able to get a lot of the stuff I don't have with me, and truthfully I'm scared to know if half of my CDs are even playable anymore, who knows what sort of elemental exposure they've had. :/

    P.S. Demonoid is invite too.

    WTF NO GAAAAAH

You can sign up for demonoid on fridays, and ive always been able to find everything I need from there, could hardly find things on oink or piratebay. Demonoid has better search and critera too, as well as lists the contents.

Hm. Guess that depends on what you're looking for. And I liked their quality requirements.

I dunno, they seemed to have everything I did search for, outside some obscure stuff that I mostly came across by accident when I bought them.

I even found the CD that had the precise versions of some orchestral pieces a friend had put onto a tape she made for me years and years ago, and it was my absolute favorite version and I'd never been able to find it after that tape wore out. :D And the Cafe del Mar Aria series, which was a bit of a lucky find, because I hadn't remembered they were a Cafe del Mar release, only recalled the titles and who the singer was (which wasn't included in any info, not even Amazon that I recall, until like, disc 3).

I suppose I can try demonoid, if I can get into it or something. But I just doubt I'll be finding the lossless/HQ rips that were standard at Oink; I don't think most people would bother if they didn't "have" to.

I'm sure tvlinks will resurface eventually, they always did the first three times they had problems. :D

    Nope, the creator was arrested.

A 26 year old from Cheltenham has been arrested in connection with the closure of the site, relating to the facilitation of copyright infringement online.

Ahh, yeah, I hadn't read the stories in relation to tvlinks, just figured it was running again.

Thing is... things like tvlinks didn't host anything, just linked out to where everything was sourced. It's like... killing the messenger.

Time to move those file sharing server to poor country with no copyright laws. Seem to be the only way to escape justice.

NO, FUCK. I loved Oink. God damnit. Time to wait until OiNK2 inevitably rises from the ashes.

    EDIT: It's even on BBC.

Who didn't see this coming? It was good while it lasted. Another reason not to be a ratio whore.

    Sad day :\

If you're on any other private trackers like I am, I would strongly consider hiding your E-mail to general users and also changing your password, especially if you used the same password on OiNK. A bunch of sites are already making this mandatory so I thought I'd just pass it along...

I don't understand how they're prosecuting this guy though. His servers host the trackers, he shouldn't have any files on his server outside of his personal collection, whatever that may be. Also, all the news places are writing this up like it was some huge money-making business, that it was pay-to-download, which is such a pile of BULLSHIT it makes me fume. I fucking hate the media, and the twists that the government fucktards put on this whole thing to make themselves more popular in the public eye.
