I'm not really sure why that's surprising. In like 2006, I remember seeing close to 3,000 on at a time. You just said yourself, you've been gone for nearly 2 months... me, I only really log in for Einherjer twice a week now and to fish a little bit, maybe 5 hours total per week. It's the fate of any MMO that's growing old and is about to be replaced.
I'm not saying this is the Mass Exodus or anything like that, lol, but the waning numbers shouldn't surprise anyone.
It's not so much that the game is "dying", I just didn't expect to see that much of a decline in a short period of time.
877 @ 4pm est usually stays like this all day on Valefor. Even with a population of maybe 2k players total End game here is bruital still with day 1 fafs 80-110 people.

928 reactivated my first char ever and turns out Odin has in this time lower stats than Ragnarok. explains it self a little when no new chars can't be created.
