    Doctor question

I messed up my back lifting, not sure what lift exactly as it set in a couple days later. And I was wondering what kinda doctor I should see about it. It's actually in lifting terms technically a shoulder issue, but it's on the back of it fairly far down. I've been doing less weight on shoulder lifts and resting longer between shoulder days but it's just not going away, I'm experienceing periodic tingling sensations, as well as a popping(like cracking a joint but along the muscle) feeling when I move my arm after it's been stationary for a long time, i.e. it's common for me to get this when I get out of bed in the morning.

I've tried resting it, probly stupidly and put it off to the point where both things are far more frequent. My insurance does allow me to make an appointment directly with a specialist, I was leaning towards Chiropractor, or Sports Therapist(??) the latter of which I know really nothing about, any suggestions would be nice, oh and if you happen to live in the Minneapolis area I wouldn't mind a reccomendation either.

    Therapist, fuck Chiropractors...

If you have a good sports high school around your area, try to find out where their teams go for their injuries and go there.

Might be worth seeing a GP at a drop-in or free clinic to get a referral at the bare minimum (that is if a therapist isn't much available). However, remember that GP's aren't often as well versed in their anatomy as many physiotherapists just because GPs have so much else to contend with when making a diagnosis.

A nuerologist is your best bet. They're the ones who are going to know the most about nerves and the interaction they have with your back. Chiropractors are a crock of shit, stay away from them.

Whenever something is wrong with you and you feel the need to see you a doctor, you NEVER try and guess what is wrong with you and try to pick a specialist to go to.

You should ALWAYS go see your regular physician, and if you don't have a regular physician, find one. Your regular physician will be able to tell you what is wrong or what could possibly be wrong and direct you to the proper specialist. Physicians almost always have a phone/address book to direct you to specialists. If the problem is minor, then the physician will provide/direct some kind of treatment or therapy.

I worked as a high school wrestling/football coach and work at a health and life insurance company, so take my word on this stuff. It's the safest and most efficient route you can take when it comes to your health.

This needs to be stamped on the forehead of every single "Internet Doctor". I'm not saying you in particular, as I'm sure you aren't foolish enough to try and treat yourself based on forum advice, but it gets really annoying when people consistently try to substitute a Doc with a forum. No offense meant at all, but please do GSADYFT.

Find a physician that will actually diagnose the problem instead of a "Doc in the box" from the phone book that will just throw anti-inflams at you and say "Call me in two weeks if it still hurts". You can get GPs/Chiros/etc. from either end of the spectrum so ask friends and family who they reccommend. You can have great Chiros (not all of them are "crocks of shit") and moronic GPs, the letters after a Doc's name are starting to mean less and less, I've even worked alongside NPs that I'd put above some Docs.

If you've got solid insurance, use it, thats what you pay for. Get scans (xray and MRI, MRI in particular in this instance) and don't wait on the problem, and especially don't keep lifting if the problem has persisted, even with "less weight". The recurring "tingling" you describe is usually a red flag for a lifting injury and any Doc worth his / her salt should react accordingly. I'm not saying "You fool! you have a herniated disc", but based solely on your symptom description its the first thing I'd want to rule out. I'd ask for more details to try and help, but that would be defeating the purpose of my advice as stuff like this needs to be diagnosed properly and in person.

    Obligatory It's Lupus.

I agree with other posters though, just see a doctor. If you don't have one, talk to a trainer or someone you know and ask if they know any good ones. A general physician that you know and knows you can be very helpful, especially if something else happens to you. It's reassuring to have someone you know and trust diagnose you.

Why are chiropractors even in this conversation about doctors? Are we really to the point where they are considered a legitimate medical professional?

Some are actually legit, and can help with back problems. The rest are quacks who think it can cure everything.
