Word from SE: Don't try and register until Saturday

LS mate just spoke to someone from SE on the phone with EU tech support.

They told them not to expect to be able to register any time today. Apparently they are in fact not doing any maintenance on it, that's just a lie from SE. It's just mass volume of users trying to register still.

They were told to not even bother trying to register until tomorrow, and it won't be fixed any time soon. I guess the "maintenance" news was just to try and stop people spamming retry.

Just registered an EU copy 20mins ago by spamming retry about 20x at every step. Not the most subtle method but y'know, it worked.

Couldn't get the register screen at all last night, nor download.
Tried again this morning still no luck. How can they not anticipate a server load of this magnitude. I would have imagine they have some odd server coding or something. I get my timeouts within 5 seconds or so. That's ridiculous. They should have enabled a way to register via a web interface.

Registering and then installing is how i did it, don't know if you can do it the other way around =P

i installed first, then registered so i guess it works both ways

Put disc in, before signing on pol chose install. select WotG.
Install takes like 10min. Once inside POL. Chose play and it will check your files and patch whatever needs adding.

No need to register during these steps. Although if you do before hand you don't need to exit FF to go back to the past. Safety not guaranteed. Must bring your own weapons. I have only done this once before.

Anyways guess I'll have to try again tonight if not, no biggie, I'll play assassin's creed or uncharted.

Honestly, out of all the complaints I have heard about the expansion so far, this is one of the few legitimate ones. Not being ready for everyone to register the expansion in a timely fashion is ridiculous.

What's funny is, they DID. A few days before they were telling people to register as soon as they had the code, rather than waiting til it goes live. They even told people to set POL to remember your password for logging into the membership section, to take one step out of the process. Putting a direct link on the FFXI screen seems like another way to take some steps out of the process.

Still, I don't get why it's such a problem. They obviously have some weird sort of setup on their servers. How is it that they can handle 2000-3000 people playing a game on 20+ servers without much problem.. but as soon as a few hundred people want to type a 20 digit code in to change a flag on their account, the servers can't handle it?
