All Worlds Emergency Maintenance (Nov. 26)

At the following time, we will be performing maintenance on all Worlds. During this period, FINAL FANTASY XI will be unavailable.

Maintenance operations will delete any reservations for Pankration matches. Players who are scheduled to participate in Pankration matches, those who will enter Assault, Salvage or Einherjar areas, or those who will participate in Dynamis or Limbus at the time of the maintenance, we ask that you please wait until maintenance is complete before engaging in these activities. Please note that we cannot replace items that are lost during the maintenance process.

* The World Transfer Service will be unavailable starting 30 minutes before the maintenance. Return Home to Vana'diel Campaign will also become unavailable once the maintenance begins. Please wait until after the maintenance is completed before attempting to use these services.

I'm a a really angry EU customer now.

I wouldn't even mind if they would do maintenance once in JP time, once in US time and twice in EU time, but we get those stupid downtimes always at 18:00- local time. Extension after that = no play for the evening if you have to get up early.

/edit: oh, and if it's "Emergency", how about fixing it _right now_?

Ofcourse it makes us feel better complaining about it, however the fact remains maintenances have always been performed after 1am JST. Obvious since thats when most of the playerbase is not playing back then and I suppose this still holds true now. The only time I've seen servers go down not around this time was when they wouldn't function properly or at all. Even then it's usually limited to a couple of zones or a couple of servers.

But yeah, 3x Monday Limbus fucked up in a row.. yay

Arg... Servers are on the west coast, employees working on servers are on the west coast, all server maintenance seems to happen during normal working hours for the west coast. Anyone see a pattern yet? There is no conspiracy to keep you from playing your game, SE just like any other employer doesn't wanna pay their people overtime.

I'm willing to admit that I'm wrong, but I remember a few years ago now there were a series of long downtimes on multiple worlds over the span of a couple of weeks where they moved the servers from Japan to California in order to improve latency for NA players. Can anyone back me up here?

nope, because when I ping the FFXI servers, they ping japan.

that and the fact that there's no NA or JP or EU server, everyone is lumped on the same one.

I definitely remember they moved the worlds somewhere, maybe I'm just assuming they moved them to California to try and load-balance lag for everyone playing or something useful like that. It's been a while, it was either 2004 or 2005 when it happened, I think. Basically they had these rolling downtimes where a handful of worlds would be down for 8 hours or more, and they'd keep doing that until whatever it was they were doing was done.

I'll keep trying to find the announcements anyway.

Well, I found the announcement at least. The servers weren't down as long as I remember, and of course no mention of them relocating them to the states. I dunno where I got it in my head that they had been moved so far...
