    ATI Radeon 3000/2000 Series

Does anyone here know if any of these cards will work with FFXI?

    2400
    2600
    2900
    3850

From what I have heard the 3850 is 4/5 the performance of an 8800 at less than half the price.

If by 3850 you mean 3870, then yeah. =P And those cards should have no problem running FFXI. If they do get back to me, I plan on upgrading soon, lol.

I have the 3870 and it runs FFXI very good/smooth.

You'd probably be ok with anything better than x850 xt (at least I was way back when, heck even a 9800pro was fine at 1280x1024) if ffxi is your only concern :D

4-5 processors later, and about the same number of video cards, high npc areas with shadows still lag, same for bard songs and agas and everything else is smooth.

One day I'm going to do something crazy like get one of those darn Mtron SSD's to see if that'll do the trick to fix the darn lag ...

Couple days late, but I run a 2600XT currently, and it works fine. I'm not doing any 2boxing or anything, though. I run it at 1650x1080 with 2gigs of ram and a shitty old 3.3Ghz P4. I'll be upgrading the CPU to a quad core, and the 2600 to a HD 3870 after xmas, but the 2600 works well enough if you're on a tighter budget.

3850 will run the game perfectly fine, compared to any other card on the market that's DX9 / Shader Model 2.0 or higher

i'm guessing you're unaware that the 3850 is an actual card.
