How do you handle parents/siblings that

Don't understand the concept of online gaming? Or the fact that your playing with countless other people? Lately, my family has been getting on my nerves when I'm playing. Like for instance, I'll be in a middle of a mission with a few other people and my mother demands I fix something that she broke. When I tell her I'm in the middle of something she'll just bitch and complain. And my brother being a smart ass would respond with "Just pause your fucking game, Jennie!"

Now I know I can go AFK randomly and do things quickly, but at other times I can't. Sooo how do you handle situations like that?

Posts like this make me thankful I'm an adult and live on my own. I couldn't handle someone else assuming to tell me what to do. When I'm at home, my time is mine to do fully as I please with.

That being said I just tell them to wait. By brother plays WoW so he understands but I've always played alot of games and told people to wait growing up so I think they're used to it for me. <.<

My parents accepted it for a time. Granted, moving out was already planned so I think they might have been feeling the icy grasp of empty-nest syndrome clawing at their throat, and been more responsive to what I was saying.

Then I moved out, and found happiness.

But seriously, I found that there wasn't a whole lot I could do other than weather the storm. I remember getting yelled at because I was trying to finish a BCNM and supper was ready, but eh, 2 minutes of waiting won't kill them .

One thing that I found helped was to set aside time before or after I played specifically to spend time with my family, even if its only 5 minutes. Thats really all it took, 5 minutes to hang out in the living room and then go off to whatever I wanted to do online. If I brought home food I'd eat it around my mom instead of taking it directly to my room, chat for a few minutes, then gtfo.

Before you want to play for awhile, tell your parents you are going to the mall, leave and sneak back into your room.

My parents were always pretty reasonable, I don't jump infront of their TV when they're busy, they don't yell at me when I say I'm busy in front of my comp.
Grandparents were another matter entirely though, had to explain them multiple times that I was talking/playing with real people and that being in front of my pc didn't automatically mean I was playing computer games. Visiting/inviting people "from the internetz" helped too. ;p

Honestly this is good advice.

I play after my g/f goes to bed, which limits what I can do in-game.

My door is usually closed. Then if people want me I turn my headset up and pretend I can't hear or see them.

If I'm downstairs however, I'm fair game for doing things like emptying the dishwasher etc.

My girlfriends dad made a comment once about she and I being boring, asked why we don't go out and hang out with people our age and stuff more often.

She said "oh, that's a cool idea, I bet they have drugs!"

I started playing in college, so I never really had to worry about this problem. I live with my brother now, who gives me shit sometimes when I say I can't do something cuz I have a LS event, but seeing as its just my brother, I just say "Fuck you" and that's that.
