    Budget Computer Parts Get

Last night's power outage fried my freaking PSU. Like the idiot that I am, I did not turn the power switch off and when power went up, the PSU got fried (at least I assumed that's what happened). Earlier today I went out to buy a new PSU but ignorant me did not know my mobo was so outdated (2001) that it is not compatible to the 24pin PSU I bought.

Here I am searching through Newegg.com for parts to replace the outdated in my tower. I am trying to limit myself to a $500 budget. Low to rebuild a computer I know but there are only 4 items I need: mobo, CPU, RAM and a new video card. So far these are what I have chosen.

    Mobo:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 813121049R

    CPU:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115029

    RAM:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820134117

    Video Card:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814150197

And if it matters in future decisions, here is the PSU I bought earlier today:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817103942

What I wanna ask of BG is, are my decisions decent enough? Are there anything I should replace that is better in terms or price/quality? Thank you very much in advance.

this video card is a lot better than yours and cost the same price
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814127313

    I would get that one.

Also, don't buy an open box mobo, you're gonna end up missing a lot of stuff.

Avoid Intel mobos if you want to overclock.
And that video card that Zigma linked = win.

The video card you picked out is a great NVIDIA card. If you're an Nvidia fan, inb4 ati fan boys, etc.

ATI can suck my fucking nuts until they code Catalyst right.

On topic, gotta agree about the board, don't scrimp too much on your motherboard.

as for your new PSU issue, return that gay PSU and look for another PSU that support both 24 and 20pins. My friend just bought a new PSU few days ago, which compatible to old and new mobo. So, unless you really want to play news game and want to get rid of your old pc, then just build the new pc.

Yes, but I was making a point (In my first post) that if you're an Nvidia fan, that card he/she picked out is a great card. Even if it's not DX10.

Uhh, the HD 3850 is much faster, cheaper, has full hardware acceleration for video decoding, supports DX10, and more, so why on earth would you choose that one?

On the budget side I'd go with a 8600GT (sub 200$) Nvidia card or 8800GT if you can wait they'll be back down in the 225-250$ range a tremendous value but hard to come by for MSRP atm which should be resolved once the revised 8800GTS comes out in larger numbers.

for the powersupply if you can stretch the budget a little bit (will serve you well even should you choose to step up your computer a good deal to much more power hungry components and run very reliably and with good stability):

The motherboard doesn't matter too much if you are not overclocking and running at stock settings, but if you think you might want to I suggest looking at a Gigabyte DS3 p35 based motherboard. Fairly cheap and a good overclocker.

stop talking green shit and get the facts straight. Ever since AMD aquired ATi (and even before that) their driver suite has been nothing but great, as a matter of fact, the 7.xx version of their drivers have been the best so far and have given speed boost to almost all the radeon family of cards.

This is not a ati fan boy rant but a "Stop trying to give advice, which is obviously wrong because you don't know shit" rant.

    The 3850
For the first time this year we can recommend AMD ATI graphics cards for gaming. We highly recommend the ATI Radeon HD 3850 for gaming under $200. With the average price of a GeForce 8800 GT currently at $293 and stock hard to find, the Radeon HD 3870 represents a healthy $70 savings while providing the best gaming experience at the $219 price point. Both the HD 3850 and HD 3870 represent the best gaming experience at their suggested retail prices. ATI has assured us that MSRP priced cards will be available and are classifying this as a “hard launch.”

    Green shit?

I'm speaking from experience, CCC is fucking garbage.

'sup 2 million hits when you search ATI blue screen. Don't even get me started on the Access Violations etc.

The .NET integration blows, there are so many people that can only run their ATI cards by uninstalling CCC and just running the base drivers. So yeah, they work okay as long as you don't need to change any settings.

Notice something? HD 3850 totally obliterates the 8600GTS, so its going to be even better than a 8600GT.
