    Threat down! Canadian Beer Drinkers

A canadian friend in my LS showed me this a bit ago. I couldn't believe this shit was actually on Fox News.

Scientists have found a new threat to the planet: Canadian beer drinkers.

The government-commissioned study says the old, inefficient "beer fridges" that one in three Canadian households use to store their Molson and Labatt's contribute significantly to global warming by guzzling gas- and coal-fired electricity.

"People need to understand the impact of their lifestyles," British environmental consultant Joanna Yarrow tells New Scientist magazine. "Clearly the environmental implications of having a frivolous luxury like a beer fridge are not hitting home. This research helps inform people — let's hope it has an effect."

The problem is that the beer fridges are mostly decades-old machines that began their second careers as beverage dispensers when Canadians upgraded to more energy-efficient models to store whatever Canadians eat besides doughnuts and poutine.

University of Alberta researcher Denise Young, who led the study, suggests that provincial authorities hold beer-fridge buy-backs or round-ups to eliminate the threat — methods that Americans use to get guns off the streets.

Why would they allow any credible news website to publish this?

Refrigerators contributing to global warming, who would have thought.

I say this is complete crap, if more people drank beer more often, people would drive less often and thus they would pollute less because their cars wouldn't be being driven as much. Beer counters global warming!

There are like 10 million homes in Canada, or about 3 million beer fridges. I'm sure that 3 million 200w fridges is more harmful then the 50 million American homes that leave three or four lights on all day.

Fox news is getting desperate in their lies...

How much of Canada's energy even comes from coal burning, at least in BC hydro power is what most people use.

Poutine is rare as hell across Canada exept for Quebec...
And even there, I eat any like once or twice a year?
But thats America, who cares, thats all we eat around here, Poutine and Doughnuts.
"Would you like some Molson beer with your doughnuts, sir?"

You dont find the good beers in the big brand names. Molson, Labatt. urrg, makes me wanna puke.

And yeah electricity in Quebec is mostly Hydro-Electric power as well, so WTF at pollution.

Hydro-electric doesn't create any air pollution, but it destroys a lot of the river's ecosystem both up and down stream of the dam.

I think it's a good thing that I didn't know what poultine was until I looked it up just now.

Has anyone else heard the radio commercials telling people that their second fridge was a bad idea?

This is a 2003 stat. Most power seems to be from Hydro electric but im guessing 25-28% of that pie chart is from coal. and about 20% is from Nuclear.

Ontario's power is mainly from Hydro one(Niagra falls) but we still get a significant portion from nuclear and the coal plants around Toronto(these are being shut down). I was actually a little surprised at how much of our electricity comes from cleaner sources,

but ya the good beer is Richards Red.

I don't think people in this thread realize how much fox news despises Canada. Ever since they were against us in the Iraq war, Fox has been lambasting Canada 24/7 non-stop. They hate Canada more than they hate Osama and Hilary Clinton.

Alleya, don't be silly. Neocons are physically incapable of hating anyone or anything more than they hate Bill or Hillary Clinton. In fact, neocons measure their hatred in units called "Clintrinos". For example, Canada marks at 0.85 of a Clintrino, abortion gets 0.87, and gay marriage charts out at 0.95. Only Bill or Hillary are capable of reaching a 1.0 on the Clintrino scale, anything else it acts like a limit- Canadians having abortions while getting gay married would still only rate 0.999999 of a Clintrino unit.

lol... why oh why does it have to be so true tho seriously...

About the op though, isn't this about like what we called "kegerators"? I mean it's pretty self explanatory and semi-reasonable, although the exact same goes on all over the US, people take their shitty old fridge and put it in the garage and put beer in it, or install a tap and co2 thingy.

Makes sense that it would be something people would be looking into, and of course fox just sings "blame canada" while they do their reporting.
