Video/Audio Editing Software

I'm looking for some simplistic software to edit videos with. The finished product would be a video composed of fraps recordings and an audio stream. I also need to be able to make use of creative video transitions(wipes, fades, etc.) to join different video segments. So far, this is my work flow.

Record video data using fraps
Open video data in VirtualDub
Append video data segments together if recording exceeds 4 GB
Export unified video segments as a direct stream copy(no change to encoding) while removing the audio stream(My fraps won't record sound, and I want to remove the original sound anyways)

So basically what I'm left with are large one piece AVIs with no audio stream and MP3 music files. Any help would be appreciated.
