lolvista+FFXI problem

Installed the vista POL no prob, updated it and restarted system. Put in the FFXI disc 1 and it says I don't have POL on my system?

Anybody got any good advice?

Recently ran into this problem myself, drove me nuts. I think what I did was something like this...

1) uninstall vista POL
2) install POL from CD along with FFXI and all expansions
3) uninstall POL
4) reinstall vista POL
5) (optional) copy over old files and run file check when booting POL (or you can run updates if you don't have the old files)

Was pretty wonky when I did it, I may have run CCleaner in there too to clean up the registry after all the messing around I did to get it to work.

Also, depending on your vista version you can do what I did- after I had everything configured and installed, use the vista backup tool with a portable harddrive to make an image so you never have to reinstall from freaking ffxi DVD / CDs again -______-; Im sure the new DVD with everything on it to install from is nice, but if you've been playing since launch and have 5-6 CDs/DVDs.... good times.

I have the same problem, and from a search i couldn't find any fixes on this.

I had installed Vista POL on my PC, but when I put in the FFXI install CD1, it said i had no POL on my computer.

after reading this topic, I uninstall it (Vista POL), installed XP POL (from the CDs in box), installed all games+expansion, reset PC, uninstall XP POL, installed vista POL.
i logged into POL fine, it took an hour or to to update all going well, i press "Play" to get into FFXI (update the game files) and it said i had no FFXI game installed.

I had also tried installing FFXI with Vista POL, and doing what the POL website said, but that didn't work, kept saying i didint have POL installed..

I don't know how to fix this.. I'm stuck

You guys exploring to the Setup.exe on the Disc? Or just auto running?

Edit: Let me clarify, I just installed on Vista and had no issues, I downloaded POL Vista installed etc, then I had to insert my disks, and explore to the setup.exe or .msi or whatever it is and run from there.

This. You need to run the FFXI setup exe from the discs after installing the Vista POL. Using autorun will give you errors.

i tried that, explore CD, and used the setup like that, not from autorun
(this is what POL site said)
but it kept saying POL was not installed

That's really odd, I'm not sure then, I mean you can launch POL fine and everything and it says its not installed?

I'll help you look some stuff up, I'm pretty bored at work, but I'm not sure about this one...

Edit: Using EU FFXI and NA POL by any chance?

Also, could be UAC or Administrator rights thing, try right clicking the setup and run as admin... worth a shot.

I'm using EU POL, EU game, on vista ultimate 32x

Oh wait yours is a little different. I didn't see it's saying FFXI not installed... thought it was POL.

But still every resolution I can find is because someone had 2 diff versions of FFXI/POL, being NA/EU. You're 100% the last time you installed POL it was the EU version? I'll continue looking but everyone that had that error I can find, this was the issue.

well. im trying to reinstall POL/FFXI all over again now. im not 100% POL was EU, i just got the one from POL site, guessing it was the right one, since there was only one pick?

maybe i missed somthing



edit: i cant seem to find an EU POL anywhere, it only has one sort to download. or am i missing it?

which is US, you should be ok...

I don't know why they dont just have the different versions linked and labled like someone with some common sense.

hmm, tbh i didint pick what site (EU/US) i just googled "POL for vista"
didnt even think about POL not been compatible because it was US,

yay, after uninstalling / cleaning PC, i installed EU POL from EU POL site, and it it seems to be working.

im installing FFXI with vista POL (i couldnt do that before)
