So it begins.
American embassy was stormed.
And by "stormed" you mean a couple of the protestors hopped the fence and started an office fire that was quickly put out.
lolserb
It's still an attack on what's considered American soil. If the Serbian police do nothing about it it's a serious breach of diplomacy.
The people that did it were tear gassed and detained.. They didnt get a free T-shirt out of it >.>Originally Posted by Correction

So when do we get to invade them?
I wanna know when to start buying defense stock.
To hell with invasions. America needs to stick to what it does best, blowing the shit out of things.

About all i know about this whole ordeal is that Kosovo just separated from Serbia, and they don't like it, because apperently Kosovo has some sort of economic and political importance to Serbia which i'm not too sure what those are. Naturally Russia is agaisnt it, and naturally the US is for it.
I do wonder why the US does not have the same position as Spain though.
And naturally Spain is against it. Hi Catalunya and Basque Country.Originally Posted by Kuya

I have no particular reason for wanting this, but it sounded good at the time I wrote it.
I know i'm whining for no reason, but this does sort of bother me about the US, even though it could be applied to most nations.Originally Posted by Viena
If we were placed in the same situation, us declaring independence could also be considered unitaleral and ilegal by the USA. Of course i place in doubt the US starting such a fuss over it today because i think we're not as important as we used to be. However, go back 30 years and further, and the US would have and did do everything in its power to stop any sort of separatist movement from influencing on the island. What this comes down to is, that Kosovo being independent is bad for some countries, politicaly and or economicaly, to others it doesn't matter, and to the rest it could be beneficial.
To summarize what i think: I don't think this has anything to do with doing the right thing and backing freedom and independence, at least for the USA, because if it did, then they wouldn't have a colony themselves. At least it's obvious why Spain doesn't support this. And god forbid one of the states decided to declare itself independent. Imagine the screech that would cause. I don't really see what the US gets out of this.
Imagine the lulz if whoever's in charge of the Mormons had himself a revelation and declared Utah was seceding.
I'd be ok with it.Originally Posted by Charla

Why am I not surprised that you only mentioned the American embassy? Are Croatia, Turkey and Bosnia not important enough for you to care about or did you just do the typical American thing of manipulating information to make it seem like your country is the only one that matters?
There are other countries that matter?
There are other countries?
Well, Xavier was linking a Times article that focused (understandably) on the American Embassy. Also, from my perspective, trying to set our building on fire makes less sense than trying to set Croatia's building on fire, and is therefore more notable, because I don't see us as being particularly involved in the current crisis. Perhaps Kosovo and Serbia see us as being more involved than I do for various reasons.
I think the winner determines legality.Originally Posted by Correction
