I thought people wanted it to be more like xbox live!
Yea, but i dont want to fucking pay! before SSBB comes out too.
We have no details...we'll see what it is.
Well they have to start somewhere, right?Originally Posted by Ace-o-fire
That statement is really, really vague. Will Ninty drop friend codes and allow us to actually play w/o restrictions but charge a fee? Is the fee per game? I have a feeling this is what they're talking about when they said this:
That sounds like a per game feature, which is upsetting. To aid in a clear cost presentation, the blue WFC logo will be joined with a similar red logo featuring the line "Pay & Play."
Hopefully this will turn out to be a good thing. If they mess this up they'll piss off alot of people. Xbox has set the standard, why can't they just emulate it first, then add Nintendo only features later? They must have learned something from their mistakes.
Here's hopin'
If they step up their game, I'll gladly pay.Originally Posted by Maxxthepenguin

They don't want a community full of assholes that makes one of their goals impossible; that goal being them making gaming a more popular medium like movies, books, and TV. It is extremely hard to make a gaming community that's not full of assholes.Originally Posted by pirahna1

Simple solution: No voicechat, "friendcode" only text chat. Why does that have to come in the way of ranks, ranked based matchmaking, and generally good online play(as in, not 90% inferior to offline play, i.e. Brawl). Especially the last once, since they don't have to change their policy for their games to have that one.
We are gamers. In BG's history we have had two subforums devoted to individual games. 1st was FFXII which was converted into the RPG forum. 2nd was Smash Bros Brawl. Despite the whining and bitching I don't think that they're having much of a problem attracting the core gamers.Originally Posted by Charla
So yeah, shut up.
And if you were implying that all gamers are assholes, then shut up.
And if you're implying that non-gamers can never be gamers, then lol
No idea, but I don't know the real complaints about the online stuff for brawl apart from lag which is probably from communicating with Japan due to using the Japanese version. Also, ranking is nearly useless w/o a named identity which in and of itself invites abuse at worst and alienation otherwise which Nintendo seems keen not to risk despite the increased ease of use for people who would participate in some sort of handle program.Originally Posted by BRP
Friend codes are still stupid. I wish it was more like the other consoles.
I wish they had dual systems where friend codes were default but you could use a gaming handle if you wanted. Friend codes are a necessity for what they're trying to do because there are lots of people who don't like making such things and just want to plug it in and try some online play, but an option for us who would want to use it would be great.
But from what I've seen the friend codes are useless... the games themselves give you their own codes anyways, so what's the point of giving the main console's friend code to begin with other than sending messages or whatever?
A handle would be better imo, especially if they still keep the code system for online games. Having both, maybe the codes being for me casual play like random pickups, while the handles for playing with friends etc. seems like the better way for them to go.
But let's not assume stuff and actually see what they have to say... I was interested in this WiiWare stuff for a while now. I don't think they actually plan on making you pay for online services, but they probably meant it more in terms of DLC like GH3/RB songs, etc.
EDIT: On a different note, I really wanted to hear some sort of announcement regarding a new Zelda game for the Wii, disappointed that they're pushing it back even more now. ;;
I'd gladly pay for p2p on the ps3. CoD servers are a steaming pile of shit, that and the fact the simplest update has been delayed a couple of months, while Live already got their fix.Originally Posted by Ace-o-fire
I was "implying" that whenever gamers get together, some of them start being assholes. This is fairly similar to what you were saying, as I understood it. Sorry if there was a misunderstanding.
Not really. So you can see their name, you wouldn't be able to communicate with them at all, not even to trade codes. So basically, it would be the same. People exchanging codes over forums where Nintendo's "protection" have no effect. Also, ranking is nearly useless w/o a named identity which in and of itself invites abuse at worst and alienation otherwise which Nintendo seems keen not to risk despite the increased ease of use for people who would participate in some sort of handle program.
Brawl's "random" play is very, very lame. That's mostly what I'm referring to.
