I just got a hard-on.
Regarding FreeLoader, wouldn't Nintendo just blacklist the disc in a future update like they did with that loader for GameCube?
(unless the disc bypasses them as well)
Wouldn't mind being able to play imports myself without having to resort to chipping my Wii.
How do Freeloaders work exactly? Do they just allow any region game to play, and do they allow "backups" to be played?
For the Wii, I'm guessing it'll only allow different region games to be played. The reason I think this is because the update that came on the Super Mario Galaxy disc made a change to the system so that it checks the media the game is running on. As far as I know, only modchips have the power to overrule it.Originally Posted by MisterBob

Although I doubt that the people who'd purchase the thing would care, I got a laugh anyways. From the Wii's warrenty:Wii FreeLoader is 100% unofficial, but as it requires no modifications to your console, it does not invalidate the warranty.
I'll be keeping my eye on it regardless. I don't want to miss out on any possible JP-only exclusives that are actually worth importing if the disc does deem fool/blacklist-proof.THIS WARRANTY SHALL NOT APPLY IF THIS PRODUCT: (a) IS USED WITH PRODUCTS NOT SOLD OR LICENSED BY NINTENDO (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, NON-LICENSED GAME ENHANCEMENT AND COPIER DEVICES, ADAPTERS, AND POWER SUPPLIES);
Has anyone here bought a freeloader?
I ordered one and just waiting for it to reach me. Will let you know if it actually works with brawl.
I'm aware of modchips being available for the Wii. I never got one because you have to solder them on, and since I know nothing about that I'd be wasting my time and money. Also, Brawl is the kind of game I would rather buy than illegally download.
Do let me know if the freeloader works (with online and all that jazz). I just got some money in so I'm looking around to buy a Wii.
mine's been shipped, will let you know as soon as i get it.
I can confirm freeloader works with SSBB on a PAL wii
There is a slight problem, if you use the official RGB cable for the wii it won't work correctly on ntsc games (because rgb doesnt exist in ntsc areas). Basically you will get a red picture. You will need to use the composite cable that comes with the wii or buy a component one. As long as your tv has component inputs.
awesome, ordering brawl and freeloader now :D All good though, so basically I just need component cables?
yeah that's it
