I have that and got it for $239 right after christmas at Best Buy. They had a sale and I couldn't believe I found a computer part there that was actually worth getting and at a good price too.
er... you bought an 8800 GTS 512MB card (not 8800 GT 512MB or 8800 GTS 320MB or 640MB), at best buy at retail price for 239, right after christmas?
i'd have to think somebody fucked up a price tag somewhere if you indeed did get this card for that price
I can. BFG 8800 GTS OC 512 at Frys for 229$ AROriginally Posted by Reality
that's a great deal, one i knew about already, but according to some people @ [H], that deal ended in most places. if you can still get that deal, jump on it asap~Originally Posted by evilbau
If you have Vista, good luck getting that to work with FFXI.
with the newer beta drivers (169.17, 17x.xx), as long as i keep shadows off, i can run ffxi on my system (vista x64, 8800 gtx, 4gb ddr2-800) at 1920x1200 at easily playable framerates (20-25 in campaign, 15-20 whitegate AH), 28-29 everywhere elseOriginally Posted by Izzy
the frames aren't as consistent as they were when i had my 1950XT 512MB radeon in this system but it's far from unplayable
If you want to play FFXI (or any game that doesn't use DX10) do yourself a favor and install Win2kPro or WinXP 32bit and save yourself some stress.Originally Posted by Izzy
it's supported after the nvidia patch to work with ffxi.
btw, the 9600 series are due, and it's said that the low end 9600s are equally powerful as some of the 8800s while being cheaper. so you may wanna check them out before shell out 250 for a 8800.
I just got a 9600GT for $67 with my cousin's Best Buy discount :DOriginally Posted by finale23
nice lol, i may have to replace my 8600 gtx sooner than i thought.Originally Posted by Creeps
Damnit, that deal is expired already.
9600GT < 8800GT, the 9600 cards only have 64 stream processors, but the clock speeds on gpu/memory/shaders are naturally high, which makes it perform great in games that aren't shader-intensive, like Unreal 3 engine, COD4, Supcom, etc. But in games that use a lot of fancy graphics and shader effects (Crysis, Lost Planet, Call of Juarez*DX10), there's generally a large performance hit when compared to the 8800 cards
i still <3 my 8800 GTX
The performance is still terrible compared to XP. Trust me.Originally Posted by Myst
