So I'm looking through my county's jailing records and a relative of mine happens to be in for
"OBT PROPERTY RETURN FOR W/L CHECK" with a misdemenor charge for it. I was just wondering what the hell that stands for.

nah, I'd categorize my dad as "Peanut-Butter Brown" to the "Black" range. No where near as dark as lets say Mr. Snipes though.
Edit: lol Tyche. Whats been goin on with ya?

That charge btw, I think, is one of two things.
Either Theft by Deception, which means he wrote a cold check, or he stole a checkbook and tried to cash in with the stolen checkbook.
Absolutely could be wrong though.

The latter seems to be terminology for "writing bad checks."
well, according to here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...1233024AAdX25r obt stands for "obtain", though i'm not sure what w/l means
yea, the "w/l" is also where I've been stuck.

lol with license check. wtf
Warrant / law violations check?
It's a discredit to the legal system that most references someone would use to check and understand their own criminal record are either dead pages, missing URLs, or lack database support. Bleh...
Your Sheriff's office would prolly know what it means, if you're interested in taking it that far.
Obtained property with a worthless check

Wouldn't passing bad checks be a felony over a misdemenor? I've never been arrested though so I wouldn't know much about it.
w1 is a warrant officer
you sure it's an L or an I and not a 1?
Depends on how much he passed off as bad funds.
Edit: in regards tio a felony over misdemeanor.
