quick event question

i'm doing the event for my +1 shinai and it says 5-7 malice for the +1. If i have to absorb more than 8 to kill it, will i still get it or the 7-10 absorb prize instead?

When I did it, I absorbed 10 weaponskills every single time and I got the +1 as the first reward. Then I got the shinai, hardwood katana, and lotus katana. Then I stopped doing it so I don't know what would've happened next.
