Skinny ad trucks? Really?

So I keep seeing these trucks, they are small trucks, like...a UHAUL sized truck. But the back cargo area is very thin- it's like it was squished to about 4 feet wide. It has ads on either side.

Has anyone seen these?

Is their purpose REALLY just to like...drive around and be moving billboards? I'm not a huge environmentalist, but that just seems retarded.

You know, I'd feel better if they were moving a truck cab from X to Y and they just tow the add thing while on the way...but the idea that the truck just rambles around town all day for no reason other than to tote a billboard around is just...it's really hard to wrap my head around in this current day and age. With all the environmental sensitivity and gas crunch stuff going on, I'm amazed people aren't pissed this stuff happens.

I've seen them here, but on a lot smaller scale. About the size of a UPS truck. The one I seen actually had rotating ads, they'd change every few minutes.

We've had them here for years too, except they're more triangular if you look at them from the top (which you don't). But the front of the board is as wide as the truck, at the back the two sides meet together to form a corner.

I feel sorry for anyone who smashes their car into one of these.

You don't suppose it JUST might be possible that...somehow...something does not start and exist everywhere instantly, but rather makes it's way around the country over time, and that some cities might be seeing this recently? And that people that don't live in urban areas wouldn't see this as often?
