Wierd FPS/Lag issue with FFXI and Notification Overlays.

So ok, FFXI works like a champ on the new PC and high settings, nps at all, except one wierd annoying issue.

If im playing FFXI and lets say a notification pops up, like something from the task bar, or a "Someone has logged into MSN/AIM" popup, my FPS drops to 0, my S/R drops and the screen goes choppy till the notifiction dissapears.


I think ive seen someone with this prob before.. but couldnt find it.. any clues?

Both.

I think I found out why though.
I knocked down all my ATI settings to low, and it's not a problem anymore, so now I gotta find out which setting is affecting it.

Can you not just disable the notifications? I can't stand crap popping up on me personally, drives me nuts. idk maybe you want/need them... in that case I'm not sure. I'm surprised that video settings was the issue, sounds more like a network thing if your S/R was dropping.

Anti-Aliasing was the problem, any setting other than "Use application settings" (the lowest quality setting) will lag FFXI if something pops up.
So yeah, im just going to disable any pop ups.

Could be normal. when one of those things pop up FFXI might be loosing focus and being set to a background priorty.

Might not be the issue if you are using the latest windower with that priority thing

I have Priorty run on startup, so that shouldnt be a problem. The wierd thing is.. ok say I open MSN, and I have it open over FFXI, it works fine, but the second I go to File, or Tools, or highlight a name and a little information overlay pops up, thats when it lags. So its not when main programs are running ontop.. its like the sub menus.. Doesnt really make any sense.

Another issue that I always encounter occurs when I have an MSN chat window behind my FFXI window. It literally splits my graphic output along the edges of the MSN window underneath whereas the half of the screen without MSN under it works at normal FPS while the portion of the screen with the MSN window behind it operates at about 7FPS. If anyone knows a fix to that, I'd be most grateful. It only happens while using MSN, AIM has no effect whatsoever.
