Any way to fix this FFXI Install? (solution: copy ffxi files, add registry keys and regsvr32 dlls)

Posted this in the newbie section, but I thought I'd post it here too, because I know I don't usually check the newbie section.

Well, my motherboard died a few weeks ago and I finally got a new motherboard/CPU/RAM. Replaced it all today, booted the computer up and it just continuously rebooted at the Windows XP loading screen even after doing a repair installation of XP. Didn't really wanna do a fresh install as I don't have my FFXI discs anymore nor did I want to lose all my other files. I pulled this HDD from an Emachines a while ago because it had a lot of shit on it I wanted to keep.. anyway, it gave me a recovery option when I booted up that would do a fresh install(emachines one.. with all this preinstalled shit) and save all my files to C:\Backup. It saved all my FFXI files there, I was wondering if there was any way I could get this computer to run it without the installation disks. Right now I'm copy/pasting the Playonline folder from C:\Backup to C:\Program Files but it's not going to have the registry files or anything so it's obviously not going to run. I read this post about moving FFXI from one PC to another but I couldn't copy those registry files because my motherboard was broken. Is there any way I can get this to work? Don't want to have to go pick up the game and install everything again.

Edit: Could I possibly have someone else export their registry files and send them to me, would that work? ;x

you have to get the registry entries as you pointed out and register any additional .dll's the game uses....I think there was a tutorial on windower.net somewhere on how to do it....Someone else can find it...

Sounds like windows xp doesn't like the hal it installed on the older proc for the newer one try running a windows xp repair install or whatever and see if that fixes it.

A trick I recently used when moving my FFXI install to the new computer might help you in this situation. Here's what I did:

Note: This method works if you're not planning to reuse your old HDD in the new computer, or if you're physically unable to move it, or if you have a new HDD and want to move everything over.

    1) Copy your entire SquareEnix directory INTACT from the old computer to the new one. It is VERY important that you do this and keep the directory structure, or else you'll end up having to do a massive update that takes like 6 hours or some shit.

You can do this using various methods including:

    - Burn the entire installation to a DVD-R disc. It's possible that the entire thing might not fit on one disc tho. You can do this also with 10-12 CD-Rs, but it's not recommended unless you take CAREFUL notes to what directories are on each disc.
    - Install the old hard drive in the new computer. This can either be a permanent move or a temporary hookup so you can copy the files (in which case you should make a temp directory called "Moved SE shit" or something like that)
    - Network the two computers and access the old data remotely.

** Note: A very few of the files might not copy correctly. This is normal and should be expected. Make note of where these files

    2) Use your original FFXI discs to reinstall the game on the new computer from scratch.

    3) This is the most important step - do not fuck up! Copy the old installation's files (which are newer) to their matching directory in the new old-version install directory. You'll be overwriting a lotta files here with their newer versions, so it's OK to his that "Yes to All" button.

    4) Run POL as normal. If successful, you will get an error message and POL will restart into a file check & update screen. After the file check, you should not need any files downloaded and you'll get the main menu. Next, login to FFXI as normal. Again, you should receive a file check & update screen. Let the file check run (will take a while), and when it's done you should get the in-game disclaimer. If you had some files that were corrupted and didn't copy, or if you had Windower or any mods installed, you will get a small file update.

Copy that in a .reg file and moditfy the locations to match where your files are.

    Code:
    FOR /R %%G IN (*.dll) DO regsvr32 %%G
And put that in a .bat file in the \PlayOnline\SquareEnix\ folder.

Run both files and FFXI config and you should be good to go.

How would I go about doing that on win7 64bit with EU pol and ffxi?

and used the .bat just as the previous person wrote it. The .bat gave several error messages for .dlls though. Only a couple were successful. Sorry for the necro, but why not use the info available.
