What to Do? (Need Help, Cable Situation)

I have TWC (Time Warner Cable)

    I have 2 HD-DVR boxes, theres some stuff I recorded on them, from 2006 >.>;

My problem is, a TWC representative called and gave me a new option of a new/better HD-DVR box, for the same price, but with better goodies

    Mainly:

+10-15 hours of more recording time on the newer boxes
Call Waiting, but through the cable box. Example: Watching TV, phone rings, phone not right by you, but you get a message displayed of who's calling (name/number), + the options of send to answering machine/voice mail, or pick up (keep ringing), and grab the phone (I think)
+ Start up feature, if you join a show 15 minutes to late, you can still rewind the show/movie to the start time and watch it (Still trying figure out how the F this works)

Thing is I don't want to lose the stuff on my box that I have recorded (All right its the Victoria Secret Shows of 2006/2007 in HD >.>;, mind you)

Is there any way I can record these show off the box easily, or am I fucked?

I know there are a shit ton of options from HD Capture cards -> Laptop/Desktop or the old school way of plugging in a VCR and just record them onto tape, or get a DVD recorder of some type and use that somehow

    I don't have a Laptop/HD Capture card
Can get a DVD recorder from my Uncle, and burn them onto a DVD...problem is what F'n wires would I need (is it just like TV > VCR recording?, and for HD to show up do I need HD wires?)

Any help would be appreciated, I will be getting the new boxes close to my B-Day (6/21), so I only have 3+ weeks to get this shit done

If you record to PC you can keep it in HD. If you record to DVD it will only be DVD quality, not HD, unless your uncle has a magical Blu-Ray recorder. So if you're going from DVR -> DVD with a DVD recorder, all you'll need are a set of composite cables.

If it were me I'd just use a set of A/V cables, but you might want to use SVideo or Component if your boxes have em.

You think a 4.7 GB blank DVD disc can record 2 hours of HD programing?
(I know I lose the H in HD, but how much is 4.7GB = hours, standard/hd format?)

Looks like I'll be borrowing my uncles recorder =X

This is right up my ally, since I work as a TSS rep. for TWC here in SAn Antonio.

I normally tell subs that would have to go Box->dvd/vcr-> tv so you can record to DVD and back-record to DVD/VCR player. I know we use Scientific Atlanta boxes, and on their websites
    Http://www.Scientificatlanta.com
sorts the box by type, just look on front and will give the part #( I think newest one is SA8240 HDC) and as far recording, if your DVD player has red.yellow, and white...use those from box to DVD player. I know the DVRs have a USB port you can use a external SATA to transfer. Any more questions, PM me or something, will help you out without actually calling tech support :D

i don't know if it would work with the cable box, but there are dvd burners that burn a dvd in blu ray format...so it's only playable on a blu ray player and is still in HD. you get shit for time on a dvd, but it's at least HD. i've got one for my high def camcorder, it's a sony recorder that was made for their cameras, but you can plug anything into it you want.

Main reason why is because NFL networks wants EVERYONE to pay for it, and add it as a basic/standard chn. Not all customers want the NFL network, so why make sub pay for something they don't want

we have even gone so far as to tell the NFL network for us to carry the games on a PPV chn and have the profit go directly to them, we wouldn't get any of it, and they still said no. Same deal with comcast and after 3 years of fighting, comcast was able to get it put on their sport's tier...same thing we wanna do.

So download that and burn it? It cuts out a device. I mean, it's just porn.

You should have a SATA port on the back.
Hook it up, if it doesn't work right away, you probably need to contact TWC and ask them to get IT to activate it.

I say this because this is the same process that we use at Cox Communications; where I work.

TWC won't activate it. Since we don't support transfering it from one device to another.
Trust me, I am Tier3 tech. get atleast 5 people calling in a day asking for that. Even though we supplied the box, it is not a function we support. Unfortunatly, he would have to contact SA on it.

That feature sounds cool, but it sucks, a lot of shows wont allow it, and its kinda glitchy.

Re: What to Do? (Need Help, Cable Situation)

Hey Guyver correct if I'm wrong but aren't all the boxes capable of start over and call waiting? I thought it just had to have the proper codes put in for the box. I'm not as familiar with account issues as you would be since you probably deal with that daily. As far as I know all HD DVRs have the same amount of recording space which is 160GB. I also work with TWC-SA as a service tech but I'm usually troubleshooting low signal issues. The way I have mine burner hooked up is through output 2(VCR) and on playback options i can just select Save to VCR and it only plays it on output 2(VCR) of my DVR so I can still watch whatever I want since my TV is hooked up through output 1.

Yeah, all boxes are capable of startover and CLR ID. Granted, the 4250HDCs were having a little issue with them due to the interface, but that has been fixed.

It's already been said, but the real problem is the NFL network wants every cable company to raise their rates by dollars per sub to carry that network, and refuses to let companies offer it on a 'pay if you want it' tier. I'm dreading the start of the NFL season because it means a start up of those calls again.
