didnt they say you have accepted the council's desicion(sp) to maintain your current rank which would mean you keep your current medal?
But it also said my medal had already expired...
I don't understand why I got to choose to keep it.
I hadn't done campaign in over a month but the game let me keep my medal instead of taking it away.
From what I know, when your medal expires you can't do any more Ops. When you speak to the person and ask for an evaluation, they note that your medal has expired, and thus immediately force the result of the evaluation on you. If your evaluation resulted in a promotion, you'd get the promotion.
If I understand it correctly, the only thing that the expiration does is force you to take the evaluation as it currently stands.
3 things can happen when you go in for an evaulation
A. You didnt do enough, they take away a rank
B. You did enough to maintain your honors so you keep your rank
C. You did very well and get promoted.
In your case B. is what happened. The only thing that would be strange about this is if you didnt do shit the entire month but for some reason they didnt demote you. What rank are you?

Yep, Holyknight, I was afraid I was going to lose it with the new medals right around the corner... but somehow I was able to keep it.
oh right whoops. Then you must have done something just enough, if you really did nothing for the whole 30 days then i guess its a bug but a good oneOriginally Posted by Priran
Actually the message is telling him, "You did enough for a promotion, but there are no higher ranks at this time"
It would just say the normal message of "The council is pleased, but you do not warrant a further decoration at this time" if he was only at the stay-even level.
Expire doesn't mean you lose it... just means you haven't had an eval in 30 days. That's all.
And that until you get an eval, they won't let you do Campaign Ops.Originally Posted by Dantrag

like a driver's license, if it expires, you don't permanently lose your right to drive and get busted down to a permit. while your license is expired, you're not permitted to drive, but you pick right back up where you left off when it's renewed.
Now that I look back on the situation, that's the most puzzling part of the whole deal.Originally Posted by Vyvian
How did that happen?
I now understand that going past the 30 day mark just forces an evaluation.
But, without having done anything... how was I ready for promotion?
dunno, maybe you got an eval one day and did some more battles/ops and stuff which was enough for a promotion anyways /shrug
bear in mind also that if your seal is expired and you go to the evaluation NPC to turn it in, it counts as an 'evaluation' and you get the 5 day penalty
It has already been confirmed that you can only lose 1 rank after your medal expires.
We need someone to test:
1. Qualify for next promation before expiration.
2. Let Medal expire.
3. Check again 30 days after medal expired.
Now if we have the same rank as before then, all the QQing we did before to SE will pretty much make us look very stupid.
The most likely explanation is that it's not currently possible to lose holyknight emblem. Normally, there are two thresholds of earned AN, one between "lose current medal" and "keep current medal", and another between "keep current medal" and "get next medal". But for holyknight there is no next medal, so the second threshold doesn't apply. If that's implemented by setting both thresholds to 0, then any amount of earned AN would put you in the "keep current medal" category.
Either that or OP earned some AN and then forgot about it.
As for the issue of the medal already being expired before the evaluation, the way I read it the current state of the seal is only checked after checking your AN earned this period. That determines whether you have a choice of whether to 'accept the results' or not. Someone with medal #2 could do some campaign, come back 31 days later and get medal #3 even though it expired before they got the evaluation.
Trust me, I didn't earn any, then forget.
I hadn't even been TO any of the WotG zones in over a month, easily.
I barely play FFXI at all these days so it's not too hard to remember what I've done the last few times I logged on. (Being that the occurrences aren't too frequent)
You probably did enough campaign after ranking up to retain it later. Everything you do after a rank up adds up until your next rank.
