Saving youtube videos?

I'm supposed to be taking some select youtube videos off of youtube and saving them to an external hard drive for work. I got a program called "Tubesock" and I can get the files, and they're Mp4, but when I play them it only plays audio, it doesn't play video. I also got a different program, which is just a plugin for Firefox, and ripped the video straight into Flash format then converted it to Mp4, but the same thing happens.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something I'm doing wrong? Halp!

I use downloadhelper plugin for FF and it's always worked fine when grabbing youtube. Maybe the conversion from .flv is fucking it up.

use Unplug, firefox plugin, it saves straight to .flv

watch with vlc media player

Eh..... all those programs are working to rip the file. But I'm still not getting the video for some reason. Pretty annoying..... no idea what the problem is.

After videodownloader stopped working for me with youtube. I started using http://www.idesktop.tv/ for youtube videos. Can download videos in formats other than just flv.

Use VLC or Media Player Classic (part of the k-lite pack) to play them, should work fine.

By the way, those plugins work great if you can view the youtube page, but if it's being blocked by your edu or work, use http://zamzar.com/url/ to have the flv file emailed to you.

saves them as mp4 and video works as long as you have quicktime. very awesome program.

iirc, doesn't Zamzar.com do this as well but with avi, mp3, and several other conversion types? Sends straight to your email.
