Questions about loliTunes, media players, and PS3

First, yea I'm a dumbass, and I use iTunes. I even bought music and episodes of the office from iTunes. Is there anyway to get this shit to work with anything other than iTunes, specifically my PS3? Any work arounds or converters?

Second, I'm done with iTunes, what's the best/most reliable media program player out there? Specifically I want something that can run as a media server (for the ps3 obvi). It's an added bonus if it can manage movies, pics and everything else in addition to music. I'm using SimpleCenter right now as my media center, but it's playback features are lacking. I can't get WMP11 to work with my PS3 for w/e reason.

Third, what format should I be ripping CDs to? I heard mp3 sux, and I should be doing AAC or w/e. What's up with that?

    kthx

Try this for Windows Media Player

    http://www.ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=74559

EDIT: In case you can't find the media sharing tab, theres a arrow right under Library when you put your mouse over it that shows a menu containing it.

yup, did all that, but the ps3 can't find the WMP11 server

and I know that it COULD because when I downloaded simplecenter (a server program) it found it

so what do you think gives?

Might be settings you didn't enable in WMA, try using TVersity as an alternative many ps3 users use it.

I use http://TVersity.com to stream media to my 360, however I've heard that it's just as good at streaming to the PS3.

They also have an improved version coming out later this month, with even more features and a massively improved GUI. Keep it in mind!

Step 1. Trade PS3 For xbox 360 (and Ipod)

Step 2. Connect Ipod to 360

    Step 3. ????

    Step 4. Profit

To convert stuff over to my PS3, I use:

    http://www.redkawa.com

Takes a while (took about nine hours to convert an 800 meg movie file over), but the quality is good. For some odd reason, I could not open any new IE/Opera Windows beyond what I already had open. A strange glitch, but it not too bad.

    Hope that helps.

Hmmm, looks like I missed the bus on this one, what are some examples of lossless formats?

FLAC seems to be all the rage for full lossless audio. I don't like it though cause it doesn't work with my zune.

is AAC a type of lossless? it's apparently what iTunes has converted my library of music into?

You can hook your iPod to your PS3 with a USB cable to view/transfer w/e files you have in there.

    To broadcast signal, try /viewtopic.php?f=36&t=29740.

    Few questions unanswered:
    1) What are some examples of lossless formats?
    2) Any way to get iTunes stuff to work with PS3? (protected stuff)

Yea, TVersity seems pretty user unfriendly. I'm using simplecenter and it works.

.wav can be completely lossless, however .flac is preferred as although it is a form of compression, it is a lossless compression, meaning you'll save yourself a few hundred (yes.. 100) megabytes when ripping a CD.

Re: Questions about loliTunes, media players, and PS3

You don't need a lossless audio format unless you consider yourself an audiophile. Most of the time you aren't even going to tell the difference and it takes up more space.

I have no experience streaming music to a PS3, but if mp3 format works, iTunes has a built-in converter to change tracks from AAC to MP3. Then just drop it into whatever media program you end up deciding to use.

If you have purchased music (ie "Protected AAC") that you want to convert to another format, there may be hack programs out there to remove the protection but I don't know of any to recommend. However I do know for a fact that if you burn the purchased music to an audio cd and then re-rip it onto your computer it gets ripped as a regular unprotected file format. Its a pain in the ass if you are trying to convert thousands of protected songs but lets say you only have 2 albums worth of protected AAC it gets the job done.

    I actually don't mind iTunes.

Theo, could you do that for video files as well? Say... episodes of the Office?
