I played the original Mario 64, and the d-pad isn't really any deterant to normal movement. Hell, it's nice knowing how to insure you go straight forward or to one side etc, and blending the buttons into doing other movements was something I picked up without even really think about it. Unless you have something against the D-Pad, go for it.

How is that FF12 Revenant Wings? I don't really know how the battle system is, it looked something like that mini-game in FF7 where you send the soldiers down that hill to fight the monsters coming up.

The story is fairly good, and it's hit and miss for a lot of people because it's an RTS. Im not an RTS fan, and I didnt love the game, but I thought it was worth the play time.

I'm a huge RTS fan, and honestly, it just made me hate the game more. It was a crappy spinoff used to milk money off of FF12 fans, that's all. I'd group it in the same league as games like FFX-2

Ya, I got bored of FF12 Revenant Wings and didnt finish it.

I dun think anyone mentioned Custom Robo Arena. It's somewhat repetitive and childish but I really enjoyed that one, no idea why.

revenant wings is trash and I somehow managed to plow through it anyway....

probably because there wasn't anything else for me to play at the time.

Because, by now someone would already know if they were into Pokemon... the series hasn't really changed too terribly much over the years.
So if you liked one, you'll like em all, if you hated one, you'll hate em all.

I found that all of the Phoenix Wright games are really good plays. There's really no reason to play through it again. They are pretty lengthy though, and have some really well written stories, as unbelievable as they may be. The humor in them is also top notch. The newest in the series, Apollo Justice is also well done too.

All others have been mentioned already. Castlevanias, FFIII & IV, TwEwY, and all that other stuff.

Phoenix Wright games definitely need to be played, if you don't mind extremely linear games. It's more an "interactive storybook" than a "game", but still great.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village is great, if you like brain-teaser type puzzles. Very well-done game.

Picross DS has gotten more playtime on my DS than all of my other games combined. Try playing it online first here:

to see if you like it, it's a pretty straightforward concept, but makes for a great "something to do" game when you're on the bus or waiting in line or whatever. It's nice because it can just be paused and continued at any time, so you don't have to worry about getting interrupted in the middle of a game.

Other than that, checking out metacritic is usually a pretty decent way to find the good games for a system:

I'll second Picross. Even after doing all of the puzzles, I still find myself playing it for at least a few minutes a day when I just have a little time to fill, or am on the can.

Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift. Think turn-based strategy mixed with an FF RPG system if you haven't played any of the tactics series before.
