    HDD noise

I recently purchased an installed a WD Raptor X drive about a week ago.

Just today I noticed an annoying grinding/scratching whenever it reads large amounts of info, defragmenting, and virus scans, however, both WD's WD Diagnostic Tool and Windows's chkdsk return no problems, and I see no problems when using the computer. Should I be worried?

Edit - I shut off the computer the first time I heard the noise and removed the drive, and peeked through the glass plate on top of the drive, I could not see any imperfections on the platters.

It's normal and common in the raptor drives. Nothing you can do about it unfortunately, it's a downside of having a cheap fast drive.

    Raptors are loud and hot.

If you get a clicking noise you could have a problem where the read/write heads are hitting the surface of the disc, which is very bad. If it dies, you've got 3 years I believe for WD for an OEM drive. 5 years for retail.
