I was over at my friend's house today. We were sitting around talking, when that Samuel Adams homebrew contest came up.The conversation turned into us giving homebrewing a try. It will be a contest from now until 12/1/08. The one to have the best brew by then wins.

Now I ask if anyone has ever homebrewed that could share some knowledge.

Done it a few times with roomates. It takes a decent amount of time, and it takes a good amount of practice (or luck) to get a decent/good tasting beer out of it. Also make sure to do it in a well-ventilated area, the smell isn't particularly bad, but it's really strong and can be obnoxious after a while.

If you plan on getting a competitive beer in by 12/1/08 with no prior experience, you're probably better off playing the lottery.
