Printer Connection Issues

So I got this new printer for college and it didnt come with a USB cord.
So at home, I just use the cord that came with our other printer to set up and everything ran just fine.

I bought another USB Cord (not HP, just normal) and now the printer isnt being deteced at all.

It keeps saying that the printer is offline and whenever I try to install the HP software again it cant find the device.

Is this because of the cord or is something else going on?

If one cord works and another doesn't I'd say you got a bum cord.

Are you using Windows Vista?

HP and Vista just do not seem to play too well together from what I've experienced. I've given up on network printing with Vista and HP and went to directly connecting it to my Vista machine. Even with this, I have still had to install another copy on my machine twice as I'm now printing to "Copy 2" of my device....

I actually have a Mac.

Weird thing is that it worked at home with a cable from another printer.

Return the cable and get a new one, or just get a new one and you'll know. Make sure it's plugged in the same usb spot too as when it worked just to eliminate another cause.

yeah i got a new cord and it worked just fine...

dont know what the issue was
