    Damage reduction gear caps & Jelly Ring

    Quick question, say for instance I have gear that exceeds the 50% magic damage reduction cap, then I throw a jelly ring on top of it all. Is the +5% magic damage calculated after all other items (thus putting me at 45% magic damage reduction), or before all other items (which would let me still achieve max 50% despite the ring)?

    Honestly doubt anyone knows more than just guessing, seeing as you can easily macro in mdt gear for most major magic damage. It's not very hard to test though, go ballista a blu/blm and have them use ES 1k needles

    Cactuar 1K needles is physical, therefore wouldn't work.
    The BLU spell is magic damage.

    If you believe that damage reduction and haste work in a similar fashion, then you would still be at the 50% reduction. For the purposes of Haste/Slow, the cap portion happens as the very last step. Since they both seem to work on a /1024th scale, and both cap at 50% reduction, I'd say there's a good chance they cap in a similar fashion.

    interesting side note... Jelly ring will increase the damage you take from atonement in ballista... but Aegis won't reduce it >.>

    I'd say the second one, anyway magic damage reduction cap from gear is 25%.
    For example, Aegis + Resentment cape + Jelly Ring it's still 25% magic damage taken.

    Wrong. Magic damage reduction cap is 50%, having shellra 5 gives you ~22-26% magic damage reduction, so you don't need more than 24-28% from gear to cap. I could be off on the numbers by a bit, going off the top of my head.. but you get the idea.

    Haven't I said the same thing? I think I misunderstood what you want to say, but you mean if I have no shell up and more then 25% from gear I can take a damage reduction higher then 25%?

    Correct, if you have 40% from gear and no shell, you get 40% damage reduction. Shell5 makes more than 24-28% off gear superfluous, but it will still work if you do not have shell.
