A pit bull is subdued by police in the Bronx on Wednesday.

A pit bull was finally subdued after attacking woman and her two children as they walked to school on Rev. James Polite Ave. in the Bronx on Wednesday.

Local residents said the dog had been abandoned beside a fire hydrant with heavy chain around its neck. After the attack, NYPD Emergency Services officers tranquilized the dog before taking it to an animal control center.

The woman was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where her condition was unknown.

Basically, my co-worker was walking her kids to school before coming to work. There was a pitbull that someone had abandoned and tied to a fire hydrant. When the pitbull saw the kids, it snapped free of the chain and went after her kids. She tried to fight off the dog and it bit her face. People that were standing nearby ran in to help and threw their coats in front of the dog so that the attacking wouldn't hurt her as much. They eventually hit the dog enough to where it ran away.

She came away with a chunk of her lip missing...which she later found in her purse after getting to the hospital. The doctors couldn't re-attach the chunk of her lips because it was not put on ice quick enough, so basically she's going to have a nice chunk missing from her mouth. She also fractured her hand trying to push the dog away.

The police showed up first. It's the Bronx...so it didn't take long haha.

Holy shit that sucks. I'd do the same shit if one bum rushed my kid also, It could have been far worse but glad she is ok at least. I hope the find the owner of the dog and charge him/her with abandonment and assault and make them pay for medical bills and damages. It's not the dogs fault, he prob was neglected and trained to be more aggressive than intended.

Sucks that the dog will probably be put down for this.

Oh yea, she was with her two youngest kids. They're a twin boy and girl and I think they're like 6 years old. They're a bit shaken up, but they'll probley be ok. Their mom is a pretty sarcastic woman so she's already making jokes about the whole thing.

They think they know who the owner is, and she is lawyering up. The owner is basically fucking trash most likely, so I don't see her getting asswads of money from it, but the owner will most likely get negligence charges.

Primarily Latino, some Black, few White. I used to work at the market outside of Lincoln Hospital, and it's pretty ghetto out there. They sent me to work at that market because I could speak Spanish. I won't ever go back there because of some very tangible threats I received due to getting involved with someone's "baby's mama."

When I heard about this and the area it was in, the shock disappeared and it became very believable to me. It's still a very sad/fucked up situation. Much like the neighborhood.
