    Meteors then...

Did a quick search and found nowt so thought I'd share:

    The Beeb:
Footage of a large meteor streaking across western Canada has been broadcast on Canadian television.

The video filmed from a local police car on patrol, showed a small light turning into a massive fireball as it fell from the sky and appeared to hit the Earth in the distance. Scientists are now searching for the remains of the meteor.

    Sky:
Scientists in Canada are hunting for pieces of a meteor that spectacularly lit up the night sky and then exploded into pieces before falling to Earth.

Meteor captured on camera, lighting up the sky

Experts are calling it one of the biggest meteors seen in the country in the last decade.

Video footage has been broadcast of what appeared to be a fireball late on Thursday over Saskatoon.
It soared out of the sky, getting larger and brighter before disappearing as it neared the ground.

Police in the province of Alberta received hundreds of telephone calls from people who say they witnessed the rare event.
Some heard a loud "boom" noise in the distance as the meteor struck.
Most meteors burn up completely after entering the Earth's atmosphere, but one in 1,000 drop meteorites that hit the Earth.

    Meteor Strike

University of Calgary planetary scientist Alan Hildebrand plans to investigate an area around Macklin, Saskatchewan.
He said of the meteor: "It would be something like a billion-watt light bulb."

Tammy Evans was woken by her 10-year-old daughter who ran into the bedroom of their home in North Battleford.
"She said there was a flash of light, the house shook twice and it sounded like dinosaurs were walking," Ms Evans said.

Rick Huziak, an amateur astronomer in Saskatoon, captured video footage of the meteor from the roof of a university building.
Although the camera records one every two to three weeks, this meteor was among the brightest seen in Canada in the last dozen years, he said.
"It was quite spectacular. The ground lights up all over the place," he said.

Links have videos of the thing, pretty nice watch.

Anyone heard about this at all? Completely slipped under my radar and only found out because a co-worker is avoiding work on his last day.

I saw the video on the news the other day and remember seeing/reading (online) it somewhere shortly after it happened.

Video is pretty cool to watch.

Yeah this was pretty big news in my city (I live in Edmonton) for a few days. I was actually driving on the highway when this happened and I saw it with my own eyes. I've never seen so many brake lights go off/general swerving at the same time in my life heh. Was once in a lifetime type thing... really really cool. The cop cam doesn't do it justice, it was like day time for a split second then back to darkness.

I think I know what happened to it.

I find it hard to believe that they're still "looking for it" after over a week now (I think it's been over a week). Anyways, I doubt it takes so long to find this with the types of satellites we have up in the sky nowadays. Something's fishy

Must have been awesome. Did you realize what happened before it was over or not?

Keep in mind the bright light you see is it burning itself up through the atmosphere, so the size is much smaller than it was when it initially entered. Mind you, this this is easily moving at couple hundred - thousand mph, so the impact no matter how minuscule the meteor upon landing will be rather deep.

Nothing fishy, just the way it is. They will find it, just takes time. Imagine going outside looking for a specific rock or unknown color, size and shape and only knowing a 3 mile radius in which it fell. Talk about needle in a haystack. Give it a few, they will find it. One fell in rural Wisconsin about 4 years ago that was about the size of a CPU monitor and took roughly 3 weeks to find it, it was lodged 15 feet underground. Patience.
