Damn this thread, I want another cat. Anyone have any experience with female calicoes? Mine won't ever accept another cat. We've tried bringing in other kittens but always end up having to give them away. She always just hisses at them and gets all tense, almost attacked one.

I know female calicoes are stubborn, so is there any chance of them accepting another cat in the house?

In my experience, it's female cats in general that are disapproving of new feline companions and even moreso with indoor only animals. I'd love a second kitty but my siamese is a bitch and won't tolerate another hairball in her house.

We have a female cat that HATES all other cats and we brought a male kitten home and she hissed at him constantly and would not let him get near her. After about a month she warmed up to him and accepted him into the house. As long as she didn't attack him we just let them work it out and eventually things calmed down.

This has been my experience as well. We usually have to keep a new kitten secluded to a bedroom for a couple weeks, introducing the cats to each other gradually throughout that time period.

I have heard this as well. We were afraid when we brought our second cat into the house because our older cat does not like people or other animals at all. Oddly enough, he warmed up to the kitten within the first day. (And became very protective.) It took us by surprise.
