    RUNDLL error, Registry problems

Recently, when I use a search engine a pop-up would randomly appear in a new window. I've deleted the actual virus several times, virtumonde.prx I believe it's called.

My main problem now is that I keep getting a RUNDLL error whenever I start up stating "C:\WINDOWS\system32\kepivuji.dll could not be loaded" or something to that effect. I deleted the original kepivuji.dll, because it was a part of some adware, but something keeps trying to load it.

I've manually went into the registry and deleted the associated registry files in safe mode, but they come back almost instantly.

Here's a copy of the Hijackthis diagnostic after the scan:

    Reformat time imo

If you're unable to totally remove a virus first time, you should reinstall windows to be sure.

Have you already used Malwarebytes? It's usually pretty good about removing this one. It in conjunction with Spybot should be sufficient. This is a pretty potent rootkit, so if you've tried those apps and you can't get rid of it, it may be less of a headache to reinstall Windows.

Yeah, I've tried both of those. They've never steered me wrong before but this one is a bastard.

I posted the diagnostics on an anti-spyware forum, if they don't have a solution then I'm going to go ahead and reinstall windows.

The RUNDLL error stopped, and Hijackthis allowed me to delete the entries without them reappearing. I think I might be in the clear. Thanks for the help.

When (and it does, from time to time) MalwareBytes fails, throw in some ComboFix and watch the (DOS-style aka imagination) sparks fly!
