Here are the top-10 films by box office, released by "Freestyle Releasing":

Freestyle Releasing All Time Box Office Results

    1 An American Haunting Free $16,298,046 5/5/06
2 The Haunting of Molly Hartley Free $13,368,675 10/31/08
    3 Dragon Wars Free $10,977,721 9/14/07
4 In the Name of the King Free $4,775,656 1/11/08
    5 Bottle Shock Free $4,078,607 8/6/08
    6 After Dark's Horror Fest Free $2,575,000 11/17/06
7 Sarah Landon and the Paranormal Free $858,415 10/19/07
    8 Sharkwater Free $850,920 9/28/07
    9 Nobel Son Free $513,331 12/5/08
    10 Delgo Free $511,920 12/12/08

There's a reason these films require independent distribution. It's because they fucking suck balls and studios are smart enough (at least sometimes) to avoid box office poison.

    iirc, FF:Spirits Within had an epic box office failure number too. I remember being incredibly disappointed with that movie. Stupid SE exploiting their titles. ; ;

I could never quite understand what was happening in spirits within.

Eh, not terrible. It did $11m opening weekend, $32m domestic, $53m foreign for a total of $85m.

However, considering the budget was $137m, yeah it was not a good investment. I don't know how they expected to recoup that budget.

Simple, they expected that everyone who had ever played a Final Fantasy would go see it. And only half of us did.

Right after spirits within was released, they promptly had to turn around and sell the studio that they'd spent a ton of money on to make the movie just to recoup some of the costs of it. A shame really, I wonder what they could have done if things had been different. I don't think anyone can deny that Square can do some awesome CG, they just needed better script writers. Not that I thought Spirits Within was all that bad, they just shouldn't have tried to call it an FF movie when it obviously wasn't.

It had no chocobos, which is fucking bullshit for a FF thing after the first one.

Yes, this includes you FF: Mystic Quest

And Tactics advance I think? Dunno, never really played it.

Yeah SE or just Square? in that time shoulda just did the cash cow thing and make an FF(4/5/6/7/8/9/X) movie instead of trying to make new IP. Even if they did try to make new IP they shoulda made it more fantasy than scifi.

no such thing as bad press etc, saw the poster, had no idea what it was about

what was that movie, the Majestic I think, where they have these producers from Hollywood telling the writer they like his movie but it needs OH I KNOW a puppy

I thought all you needed these days was some B-list voices and a pixar tag = win

Oh My God, exactly. Land Before Time was so touching and beautiful and then they make
TWELVE SEQUELS AND A FUCKING TV SERIES, all with the depth and majesty of a teaspoon used to burn coke. Every time they make a new one, a part of my childhood dies. No, it's tortured first, it's like it's forced to eat its own shit until it dies from a combination of malnutrition and sepsis.

somehow we need to figure out a way to do a bg movie night, and watch the old cartoons, and talk about how they're superior, and complain about kids today....also popcorn.

btw All dogs go to Heaven was the shit, I remember seeing it in the theatres crying at the end.
