Eh, not terrible. It did $11m opening weekend, $32m domestic, $53m foreign for a total of $85m.

However, considering the budget was $137m, yeah it was not a good investment. I don't know how they expected to recoup that budget.

Right after spirits within was released, they promptly had to turn around and sell the studio that they'd spent a ton of money on to make the movie just to recoup some of the costs of it. A shame really, I wonder what they could have done if things had been different. I don't think anyone can deny that Square can do some awesome CG, they just needed better script writers. Not that I thought Spirits Within was all that bad, they just shouldn't have tried to call it an FF movie when it obviously wasn't.

Yeah SE or just Square? in that time shoulda just did the cash cow thing and make an FF(4/5/6/7/8/9/X) movie instead of trying to make new IP. Even if they did try to make new IP they shoulda made it more fantasy than scifi.

All Dogs Go to Heaven 2 was awful. A complete disgrace when compared to how great the first movie was. Just like The Secret of Nimh 2 and all of the Land Before Time movies past the first one. It was just an easy attempt at a cash in taking movies that actually had some really adult themes and turning them into singing and dancing PBS jokes. I actually bawled like a baby at the end of All Dogs Go to Heaven 1.

Oh My God, exactly. Land Before Time was so touching and beautiful and then they make
TWELVE SEQUELS AND A FUCKING TV SERIES, all with the depth and majesty of a teaspoon used to burn coke. Every time they make a new one, a part of my childhood dies. No, it's tortured first, it's like it's forced to eat its own shit until it dies from a combination of malnutrition and sepsis.
