I'm also interested in this, critics absolutely destroyed this movie, so I'm curious as to what normies thought about it.

when I first saw the trailer for this movie I thought it was Sin City 2. Thought it was pretty stupid he made it in the exact same style as Sin City.

Dude Sin City was so fucking awesome why would you not want another movie made in that style? I hope this is half as good as sin city...

I thought it was a good idea, but overall the movie is pretty disappointing. Dialogue is pretty bad, some shit made no sense/was confusing, the villian is horrible and there's hardly any characterization.

Normally that shit doesn't bother me if there's some kind of action or cool ass special effects to make up for it, but they all seem to fall flat.

Note: I didn't read the comic/graphic novel, so the dialogue and such could be what was in the comics but I thought it still sucked.

I'm not saying Sin City was bad, or that Sin City 2 would be bad either. but this isn't Sin City. He's using it's unique style and giving it to a completely different movie just so they can make more money off the people who say what you just said.
idk.. I dont really want to start an argument over this.

To be fair 300 had a certain Sin City feel to it aswell

    It's just Frank Miller's style.

The problem is that The Spirit is not a frank miller comic. This film should not have been shot in this style. It's Frank Miller taking a fresh idea and skullfucking it into the dirt. It's his 'signature' to do this and it's been a problem since the 1980's. I was terrified this movie would suck from the first trailer.

Samuel l jackson is largely the only reason to watch this; eva mendez and all the other eye candy is nice but can just go look at some porn or something. Jackson gets some ridiculously absurd new lines that will get quoted almost as much as the Pulp Fiction stuff I'm sure.

Dialogue is so contrived and awkward in certain segments, mediocre movie with some bright spots. And while eye candy is eye candy, Eva Mendes' dropping towel was pretty fantastic.

You can tell that Miller is trying for an over-the-top, wooden, ham-fisted feel to this, almost trying to convey the experience of a 1940s radio serial. I know what he tried to do, but it just didn't work. It was painful to see A-list actors come off so lame. The only character that ever showed any real emotion was Seraph, and even then the girl who played the younger Seraph in the flashbacks came across better than Mendes.

Signing a crime scene with a Xeroxed ass was well played, made even better by the quality of said ass, which is revealed in all it's flawless detail 2 scenes later. Delicious.

Also, Samuel L. Jackson wearing an SS uniform was priceless.

Final thoughts: The direction made this movie not as good as it should have been. Some high points, some low points, some Dildos and Huevos Rancheros. Overall, I give Eva Mendes a 9/10, and the rest of this movie a 6.

I saw it, not really what I was expecting, but overall I liked it. Wasn't great, but there were some funny lines. The random talk about eggs from Samuel was funny (I'm guessing that was from the comic or something? Never read it.)

Almost every supervillian has at least one little personality quirk, in this case it was eggs.
