Laptop Issues.....yeah.....

Ok, taking a look at why my girlfriends laptop hasn't worked in over a year now.

The power connector, inside the laptop is snapped completely off the board and is just bouncing around inside the laptop. I tried opening it up, to survey the damage but I couldnt get the bottom of the laptop completely off.....this is my first laptop ive worked on, so can the bottom completely come off?

Also... if I were to solder the broken AC connector back onto the board, will that even work? Am I wasting my time on this project?

Its a Acer 3680 laptop, only a year old....so not too old and would be nice to save.

Generally the best option is to send a laptop back to the manufacturer for repair.

If it's an older Laptop, and you dont mind it getting trashed (take out the HD before you do stuff), it's really the only way to learn. Laptops sucks to work on, and yeah, getting the bottom to completly seperate on older laptops can be hard, just gotta keep looking around for things that are connected.

sadly, sent the laptop back to acer...and they want $300 to fix it.

Yeah it's possible to get the bottom completely off, but sometimes you'll find screws hidden under components so you may end up completely separating every piece.

Looks like you'd get a used Acer 3680 for less than $300 on ebay, probably best to write it off and buy something current.

Ya thats what i'm gonna end up doing.... probably gonna head to circuit city and see what they still have for laptops.

So.... my PS3 got a new HDD lol
