I think any entry level system that will get you decently far into photography or at least get you a good start is going to run around $500-$600 just to give you a base price. From what I have seen this will get you an advanced point and shoot, good micro 4/3 setup or a Nikon or Canon entry level dslr kit.

Just wanted to add that to everything Kkel said. Also the 4 DSLR options he listed (2 for nikon and 2 for Canon) are what I would recommend checking out too. Make sure you hold them and play with them before purchasing though because ergonomics is really important in your comfort when using a camera.

Trying to take a macro shot of my sons eye last night. Really hard to do on a 2 month old lol. Going to keep trying until I nail focus but this was the best one I got so far.

Putting my new Tamron 70-200 2.8 (backup to my Canon 70-200 2.8 IS Mark I) to the test. I think it performed admirably.

That lens is great, Zansho. I just got my Nikon 85 f/1.4 AFS a couple days ago. Also finally picked up a circular polarizer. Shot a couple of pics to test out. Outdoor shot is f/8. Cat is at 1.4.

Red mite taken at 1:1 this guy was so small this is cropped way way down. Going to go back out when I get home today and see if I can capture one at bigger than 1:1 with a reversed lens.

No one taking any photographs lately? I don't want this thread to die Anyone been out or working on anything cool? I took weekend visit to my home town and took these on a hike with my mom for mothers day.

I am waaaay behind in editing. =( Here are a couple recent edits. I am almost caught up to only being a year behind. Yay?

Now that the light is around when I get home from work, I tend to start shooting much more. Unfortunately, the clouds have been nowhere in sight so I am left with either Golden Hour shots (always fun) or super burning sunlight. So instead I edit... and wait for some perfect afternoons.

Summer is my best time because sunset is so late I can actually catch it after I get off work. There have been some beautiful days in my area and the weekend while I was down in my hometown were great too. I am behind on editing and organizing my photos too, it is tough to sit down and organize photos when I would rather be outside.

Edit: Also lately I started getting larger prints made from my landscapes and they have been turning out really great. There is something to be said about getting your photos printed out rather than just holding on to the digital files. Really feels nice to see them hanging on the wall.

Absolutely! I have used MpixPro a few times in the last couple years for some larger prints. I haven't found the happy place yet as far as color calibration goes, and haven't invested in a solution... but having some 16x20s of some of my favorite portraits hanging up is very motivating. I only have a 8x10 photo printer myself, but even then... taking one of my nicer shots and deciding to bust out the Hahnemühle is always fun.

Did anyone take any pictures of the eclipse on Sunday? Or was everyone else outside of the area where you could see it? I got to see the eclipse and it was pretty awesome.

No big shock that it was pretty much stuck behind clouds here in the NW. I didn't have a sufficiently dark mask (like a welder's mask) to cut through the clouds and see it still and definitely no point in me taking pictures =(

That sucks. At least you got to see it. We were lucky enough to have really clear skies.

These are what I ended up with. I haven't finished editing all the photos though.

Sun setting behind the ski area at the top of the hill.

Beginning to end progression starts on right and goes to left, you can tell because as the sun got lower in the sky it got more orange.

In no way blowing smoking, that is fucking bad ass sir. I really really love that picture. I would love a nice high quality square format print of that on my wall. Excellent.

Thank you Graelinn. I am planning on doing a little bit of adjustments to them to make them suitable for print and then printing them both out to hang together. I will post a pic when I can finally get it done which might be a while because framing is expensive.

I rarely post, but I love love that silhouetted eclipse enough to say: Awesome! I want a print too!

That shit is tight, zoob. It's not like people can practice photographing an eclipse, so you did a great job. I would have loved an opportunity to take some, but as usual Seattle was cloudy and rainy.

I've been doing a lot of cosplay photo-shoots lately. Going to put a photo book together to sell, and this is just the first round of locations. Here's some shots that won't be included:

Very nice Tummie that setup is awesome and it gives you insane magnification. I just took a couple of shots with a 300mm lens I will upload when I get a chance. How do you like the Baader film? What filter do you use if you want to capture the corona and solar flares and such?
