windower lag problem

I've been having this problem a few days
at first I thought I needed to reset pc
didnt help

then I thought it was lag from connection
not that

then I thought I hd a virus
not that..

basically from starting windower up to in game, everything lags a bunch now, the connection dial up, the screen, the animations.
then when I'm in game everything seems slower than usual, but not so laggy it's impossible to play

then on many occasions I'll be typing somthing and the line'll just freeze
I can still type but wont be able to hit enter, or move or reach menu. about 10 seconds later it all catches up and everything I did happens on screen

any thoughts?

also all the sounds recieve slower.
all the sounds from FFXI come out about a second or two after it's happened.

it's a very new pc. no older than 6months. regarding spyware I ran a virus scan and got rid of everything in the way.
in terms of specs here though:

XP pro SP2
intel core 2 quad 6600 CPU 2.4GHz
2gig ram
gigagbyte motherboard GA-P31-DS3L
graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX


I've tried reinstalling the plugins
tried reinstalling windower
tried reinstalling graphics card
I've checked the ram and thats working fine
I've compared it to other games (command and conquer works fine)
I've checked it without windower and in SE windower (works fine)

running out of ideas... :/

Try running it without some Plugins, or try to update (Or downgrade) your video card drivers. I don't personally use Nvidia but hopefully somebody who does can tell you a working Driver.

Have you tried running FFXI without Windower? That means just the basic/plain FFXI-PlayOnline way. If it still occurs then, you can write out Windower as a cause. I'd move to a Videocard/Driver issue then.

it works fine with the SE windower too.
I dunno whats going on, but somthing has gone really screwy with the unofficial windower on my pc. lags like a bitch, freezes, sounds become delayed, FPS as stuck at like 9

Other than a transparency issue, I don't know what else it could be. My fiancee a year ago had a problem with her 8 series and transparent windows when they were running in the background of FFXI or on top. Causing intermittent lag every few seconds, or a locking on the screen for half of a second.

Turned out the culprit was Objectdock, along with Rainmeter.

Is there anything new software-wise you've modified or installed recently?

not that I can think of. I already did rollback to FEB1st, but the only thing I can remember I installed was firefox. which I uninstalled today..

I've read up on a lot of the issues that ppl have been having with the 8000cards.
they are similar but not. this did happen over night though.. without reason or explanation..

does windower use somthing on the computer that if corrupted can mess the computer up?

ffs I cant do shit when I lag this bad. and it's not the USB problem ppl had because my keyboard/mouse already connect through p/s2 converters

I remember when I got my new PC, it came with an energy saving program. The program reduced the amount of voltage the CPU uses. This resulted in aweful lag though not as severe as yours. Do you have an energy saving program running?

Have you done any updates to your PC like for instance installed .net 3.5 and the subsequent service pack for it?

.NET won't do anything for FFXI anyway.

You mentioned you've run C&C. Which one? The newest with 3D graphics, or an old 2D one?

Download and try running a FFXI Benchmark program.
