Can you use Vista drivers on a XP (OS)?

    HP PAVILION ELITE MP177C

Only drivers available are Vista onry: Select software and drivers

If I install XP on this machine, will the Vista drivers work? Or will they not work properly/fail?

I know that you can use XP drivers on Vista decently for the most part. Just wondering since I've never heard anything about it.

Vista drivers won't work. You may be able to find most of them (at least) on the manufacturer sites, though sometimes the generic drivers won't work either.

i can't speak for your drivers, but i have a Acer 5520 aspire, and even tho it had almost none driver on their website, they were mostly known by windows (not generic)

Possible it will be like that for you too especially with SP3, lots of chance windows XP already know your drivers

I found a few times with laptops that even though it said "Windows Vista" the drivers still were able to work with XP. This usually means you don't really know until you try.

Usually either way, you can find the exact driver you need from any given specific chipset manufacturer website. (Aka Realtek's website for audio).
